It's an LGA 775, yes it will support core 2 duos. just make sure you also get adequate cooling or you will see fireworks.
Depending on your other system specs I would go something even faster, like an e8400. of course, if your video card is shit and you've got 512mb of system ram don't bother. Jam it back in, in the dark.
