Quick question... this is for the PS2 only, right? Hope so, I refused to buy 11 for the sole reason that it was PC based. Maybe it makes for a bigger, more involving game but there's nothing like the good ol' retro feel to console rpging.

Anyway. Welcome my stubborn opinionated self.

Phew. I have no idea how 11 plays and what changes they've made compared to the previous games but as long as it sticks true to them still I'll be a happy chappy

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Yeah, I heard that. Damn shame. I might have to check a review on 12 tomorrow when/if I get time.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Tell me about it! I've been living hermit-styley for the past 3 years!

Doesn't the PS2 need net capabilities for 11 though? Sorry I should've been more specific.

How ya doing, buddy?

And to answer your question, yes, Final Fantasy XII will be released in North America for the PS2 this October, given the news/reports circulating so far.
I said PC based. As in with all the prepherials you need to have with the PS2 you might as well have the bloody thing on there. So there.

Living in England sucks. Thats all I have to say about that.

Ok, considering the fact that most of you are playing this for the first time, and have not yet completed the game, do you think you will be playing this again and again, even though (from what I can tell) the game is huuuge?

Just a question to pass the time

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

And on topic... which of the past FFs do you all think has had the biggest references to (if any) in the game?

Guys, if you get a bit of time in between blitzing the game () draw up a list of things you expect (or at least hope) to be tweaked in the european version. Judging by some of the comments over the last hundred-odd pages, there seems to be a fair few of them (even if they're only minor).

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Ok, the information is spoilered now.
I just thought after over 3000 posts, FFXII players, who haven't beat the game, would avoid such huge threads since it's natural that many people have finished it and want to discuss. Well, at least I did so.

And in fact, I didn't reveal the final boss
Don't assume. I live in England and therefore it hasn't even been released here yet, but I still browse this thread all the time reading the interesting tidbits. If I had come across your storyline spoiler I probably would have killed you.

Kudos to Spat.

Carry on.

So whos actually worse to fight against? Yiazmat here, or perhaps the Diamond Weapon from FF7? Or if there's been a tougher opponent than these guys mentioned, from like FF8 or 9, list em.
Do you mean Emerald Weapon? Because Diamond was a piece of piss. He was the one attacking Midgar. Emerald is the underwater one. You must mean him.

I think all the 'ultimates' in the series are easily doable as long as you have a high level and the right abilities (and a smidge of luck don't hurt). Although I will agree about Penance to an extent.

I'm glad there's some real bastards for bosses in this game. About bloody time.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Right. As a post I made about a month ago was left unanswered, I'll ask again:

So basically discuss any problems that you think need to be ironed out for the EU release, be it glitches/crashes/translation errors etc.

I've neglected the forums for a good couple of weeks now because of this bloody game. My initial thoughts; I must admit I'm not as comfortable with the gameplay as I have been with the others in the series. But I can live with it (seeing as how I'm pretty over-levelled again at this point). I've just fallen into Barheim Passage and I'm at level 30. More to follow shortly.

Anyone still playing this? I'm supposed to be going to Ridorana, but my attention's been with doing all the hunts that I haven't done, as well as getting as many Espers as I can. My main party is on lvl. 82-83 and I have almost all of the 'ultimate' weapons. I just took on the
Spoiler:
Hell Wyrm
and won, took a while but I just bashed away at him and he eventually keeled over. The only Espers I need to get now without carrying on with the main quest are
Spoiler:
Ultima and Zodiark, I would go get Ultima now but getting to and going through the Great Crystal is a fucking butt-ache. Why can't there be a gate crystal at the entrance to it?
Apart from that, I have nothing else to do. My damage output at the moment is crazy

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Well, I just started playing it because a certain someone told me it was really awesome, and not lame like most other recent FFs. And it totally is, I love the combat system and the voice acting is really good as well. Even the soundtrack, which is by (in my opinion) one of the most overrated videogame composers ever is pretty good.
Well you sure have a high opinion of it! Nothing wrong with that though, it's an enjoyable enough game. I'm just being a touch bitter because I'm in the middle of the lull in the story...
Quote:
Spoiler:
I'm not very far into the game yet, I'm at the Yansea desert (not sure if that's the name but it's something like that). I tend to rush through games as fast as I can without levelling up, but in this game it's impossible to play it that way, the boss fights are just too harsh for it. I faced the boss of that desert thing at level 17, and got my ass handed to me in Tupperware jar. Right now I'm just levelling up and chaining on those dwarf guys.
Spoiler:
Level 17?! Damn mate, you really do need to boost your levels! Did you get a Burning Bow from the Dive Talons in the Westersand? Or made a Fransisca from loot found in the Garamsythe Waterway? It would've made life a bit easier!

Quickenings were essential at the beginning when I wanted to level up quickly at the earliest point I could, which was Vaan on his own killing Werewolves for a big exp gain. As soon as I was sufficiently strong enough to kill them without Quickenings I carried on with the story. From that point on I didn't need to use them again.

Now for the update. I just defeated the hardest monster in the game,
Spoiler:
Yiazmat.
And I did it... in one go. That's not bad considering it has had 50 million HP.

And there's still 2 Espers I need to get yet! Somehow I don't think they will be a problem...

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Jamma, that's not the hardest monster of the game. That last 10% is absolutely insane, but most of that fight is extremely boring. Omega's actually harder for various reasons. But yeah, that hunt is aptly named.
That's good to know then, I wasn't expecting much of a challenge from the rest of the enemies in the game, just a tedious journey through the Great Crystal... which I'm still not looking forward to

So MS, how many times did it take you to finish off Yiaz? And what method did you use?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Heh, might want to take that back. Without a ribbon, the Pharos Subterra and Great Crystal are brutal. Even with it, the enemies still manage to do boatloads of damage even through something like Z. Escutcheon + Protect. After doing all that gate crap to open the one to Omega, you have to progress through quite a few screens with nothing but Forbiddens.

Irritating when you're well prepared, dangerous if you're not.
I had 3 Ribbons before I entered the Pharos And I didn't use them for Subterra because it was a cakewalk. My biggest gripe was the endless cycle of collecting the Black Orbs (funny how it took me a good couple of hours to collect enough, and then by the time I'd left the place I had inadvertedly collected a few dozen more... typical). I think I'll stand by my decision with the Crystal. I'm still more powerful than all the regular enemies I have encountered so far, even the ones in the later stages.

Quote:
Stage 1 - Took him down to ~30% of his HP, ran out of Chronos' Tears saved + restocked
Stage 2 - Reached the last sliver of his health (final piece of final bar) , but was stuck in a seemingly endless revival loop with little chance to heal, so I revived everyone quickly and bolted. Saved and restocked
Stage 3 - Came back in, he completely lost the uber-aggressiveness he had when I last left and did the typical rebuffing. Killed him while he was doing that.

I've heard and tried the Decoy + Reverse trick, but I found it falls apart too easily. I think beating him in 3 stages in just over 2 hours is good enough.
Not bad. I did think about leaving the area to save/heal/restock, but I made a promise to myself that I'd try and beat him in one go. And as the battle went on, I was becoming more and more sure of myself that I could do it. After I ran out of Chronos Tears I used Remedies () and went I got down to the last few of them I had to gambit Dispel (which I was really pissed about) The last 10% was indeed the worst though, his constant Cyclone followed by numerous death Strikes brought out the ugly side of me, like shouting at the telly (as if that was gonna make any difference ). In fact my younger brother, who is my official Supporter-and-Advice-Giver didn't utter a word to me the whole time I was being pounded upon... probably a good thing really...

I didn't bother with Reverse either. It's not the type of game I play. (to be honest I haven't used it before, but it sounds like a sucky way of playing)

How ya doing, buddy?
Merchant: "You’re that thief, Locke, aren’t you?"

Oh, good then you're ready. Without their irritating breath effects, the Forbidden will be doing little more than wasting their time trying to hit you with status effects while you waste them.
Yeah, I could see that. On my way back from Omega I unintentionally started building a nice chain, and as I want to get to lvl.99 asap, I put Tippets on and really cleaned up. Now at lvl.97

Quote:
Heh, that bit about your brother got my laughing, since my sister clammed up as well. Especially when he hit Penelo and Vaan with 9-12 slashes because the random OHKO effect hadn't kicked in yet. Death Strike and Cyclone only added to the insanity. Man, after I beat this bastard I immediately remembered that other uber boss from a few FFs back (Shinryuu was it?).
Ah, that was the other thing I was so mad at! The more I'd try and Curaja my ally's, the higher his combo would reach. Goddamn it was frustrating!

Quote:
Oh, definitely PN. If the monsters are coming rigged, so am I! The problem is, if you use it against Omega you have to uber-micromanage to the point where you might as well take him on normally. On top of that, Decoy & Reverse were intentionally made to avoid this and their duration time often ends up working against you.

Lastly, bad luck will instantly send that setup out of control. The one reversed could have it come off at an inopportune moment (during this fight, that's ALWAYS the case) and they're offed right there and while trying to revive + recast, your other two guys are wasted.
And that's why I haven't used it. I despise having to solely rely on statuses being on 100% of the time. All the recent boss battles I've been in, at some point I've not had any buffs on whatsoever and still been able to hold myself up well, and I like that. I can't explain the reason very well, so I'll just say I'm a lazy bastard and can't be arsed once I'm plugging away at them

Quote:
Omega's easy enough if you keep on top of things, though that gets hard as fuck after his attack power goes through the roof and he speeds up substantially (as well as quartering your damage).
Heh, no shit. It took over 5 minutes to take the last slither off him, as I ended up with 2 members KO'd, and the time it took for him to attack twice (and kill the surviving member) was also the time it took for them to cast Arise on another. An endless loop. Woop.

Anyway... he bit the dust and now I'm gonna have a go at this fishing lark. I have a feeling I'm not gonna enjoy this bit.

Btw, does anyone know where I can get the Thief Cuffs (or whatever it's called)?
Out of all the places Quarky mentioned, the Mosphoran Highwaste is the earliest and easiest place to find them. The shopkeeper has them as well as Golden Amulets, which is also the earliest place you can get the rest of them (the first one being a reward for the Dalmascan Patient side-quest). Although if you're using Flare, I have a feeling you won't be needing that latter part of info...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

...it would be nice to see a system where once you started down a path it was difficult to wind up on the same one as someone else.
A more advanced version of FFX's Sphere Grid perhaps? It sounds like a similar comparison at least.

What do you need to sell to get the Forgotten Grimoire's to appear in the Bazaar? I checked a FAQ for the bazaar and it didn't have it listed.
I've compiled a little list for you. Hope it helps.

Hunter's Monograph (18000 gil): enhances loot from beasts/avions.
-Complete the Thextera hunt, then talk to Gatsly in the Bazaar (near the Clan shop).

Knight's Monograph (19000 gil): enhances loot from giants/insects.
-Talk to any weapon merchant at least 30 times.

Mage's Monograph (21000 gil): enhances loot from fiends.
-Talk to any magick merchant at least 25 times.

Scholar's Monograph (22000 gil): enhances loot from constructs.
-Talk to any armor merchant at least 15 times.

Warmage's Monograph (20000 gil): enhances loot from amorphs/undead.
-Read the hunt noticeboard at least 20 times.

Dragoon's Monograph (22000 gil): enhances loot from dragons/plants.
-Read the hunt noticeboard at least 40 times.

Sage's Monograph (25000 gil): enhances drops from elementals.
-Talk to any merchant over 100 times.

And I'm trying to find the magick Bravery/Faith. How would I get those?
Like Leknaat said, at the Clan shop. You get Bravery after you reach the rank of Riskbreaker, and Faith when you reach Brave Companion.

I was speaking idiomatically.
