[Multiplatform] Final Fantasy XI Discussion

With the upcoming expansion makes me want to start playing again :/

Though I doubt my old character still exists, and everytime I go back I just end up doing nothing but fishing :P But stuff from new expansion does look really exciting...and every game I play gets boring fast

Just wish I could get my old character back, really. :P

Well my character wasnt on my account one of the times I came back was gone (believe I must have been gone a year, which I read is when they purge your ID)

I resubsribed I didnt get my oldest character back :/ but got the one I had last time.

They said in an inteview (before the fan festival) that the three jobs were supposed to be more magic-related since there are so many melees in the game. Personally I'm looking forward to the new jobs, I'll probably play as BLU, but I dont know might play as COR the luck factor seems very cool, and makes me think of setzer from ff6

Corsair, sounds like it could be lots of fun with the whole "luck" factor, personally, to me it sounds like this could end up being good with a melee subjob (even though SE has stated its a support role), it uses a "Hexagun", so its kind of a toss-up which is more melee-oriented, this or BLU, I cant say yet if PUP is. Since BLU is sort-of like a RDM in the fact it gets all sorts of spells and can melee and cast, but COR also will use hexagun as weapon, so they might end up being somewhat decent DD (yes, I know SE has stated they are a support class). Though I suspect WHM will be good sub for either, same with PUP really. I am wondering ---> is Hexagun a new weapon type, or just a marksmanship weapon that only COR can use? I would rather see a new weapon type tbh. Also, the card move in the trailer looked pretty cool, too. (I'm guessing thats what it was when the Mithra had the golden cards swirling around them, they sorta looked like Triple Triad cards) Hmm, maybe they will tie in the card game that you can pay 1$/month for into Corsair somehow? That would be interesting. (I forget the name of it)

Puppetmaster just doesnt sound fun to me, just looks like another pet class kinda like BST only it comes up with its own pets, let alone, there isnt much out there about PUP, but from what I've seen its either going to be Mime, which I guess COULD be somewhat interesting if its like Gogo from FF6 and you can set abilities from other jobs for your puppet, or something, but unlikely, probably if it is the mime route it will just have an attack pattern similar to what you are fighting which kind of sounds like a ripoff of BST to me. Or it will have diffrent Puppets for diffrent occassions, which sounds alot more interesting, the only one I've seen is the "Tarutaru Puppet", but SE has stated there are more then one puppet available. Perhaps similar to SMN..but diffrent? ie one puppet casts spells, one only does physical attacks? or something. They also said that the original cocept for PUP was a necromancer, but they didnt like the idea of the undead/puppets, becoming weak during the day, so they turned it into puppetmaster...so perhaps you can get new puppets from diffrent monsters? Who knows.

Blue Mage, currently, sounds really interesting to me, for one, there's alot of areas people dont level in anymore (FYI, on my first character i spent most of my time getting ridicilously high fishing, never got to a high job level, was only 30), but I see that nobody levels in La Theine, Tahrongi, Maze of Shakrimi anymore. Which personally I wish they did I dont mind the Dunes as much as some people but I like some of the other areas. Perhaps with BLU we will see pt's in these areas again, so that BLU will be able to get the abilities from the monsters (Dhalmels have that healing spit move, I can definately see that as being useful). And the whole, you can only set a certain amount of spells thing, sounds really cool to me. Just the fact you have to know what you will be fighting and set the appropriate spells, and you could come up with a "set-up" that works really awesome against the monsters you are facing. But then once your group moves on to new monsters you wouldnt be as effective so probably have to re-set.

Anyway, those are my thoughts...

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

It's impossible you could get to 75 on all jobs in 2 months. There just.. isn't enough time even if you went 24/7. It takes atleast a month of nonstop leveling whenever you can just to reach the 60s on one job. This does not include leveling of a subjob to match.

SE said in an interview they actually put this quest in because a JP player HAS reached 75 on all jobs, if I recall I read the interview on a HNM LS website. If I recall I read on alla a few weeks later that a few people on other servers got the cap.

Hmm, I don't play much anymore, I spend a lot of time making many of Kujata's prominent end-game-linkshells mad at me on their respective forums, as well as ffxi's drama headquarters: VN boards.

I'm in the process of leveling up my Red Mage, I've all but abandoned bard, as it is by far one of the most boring and noticably repetitive jobs in this game. When the expansion comes out I think I'll jump on Blue Mage, which sounds fun.

Hmm, your welcome to post your levels and such here, of course...but if you want your character levels and such to be listed, I've reposted the FFXI Server Catalogue some time ago. Visit that thread for that :/

As far as the new jobs go, I dont know if I will jump into any or not, we'll have to see, on the one end, I like the sound of some of them, but alot of the players are already forming thoughts on what should be subbed, despite the fact the expansion isnt even released :/

Alot of people seem to think PUP should have /MNK subbed, I understand the description says they will use H2H and there is movie out there of them doing it, but blah I have always liked WHM so I was hoping for /WHM, and I really dont see why people dont seem to think it isnt a good idea for PUP.

Corsair sounds interesting to me as well, since I remember reading somewhere that SE wanted to introduce a combination of old-style classes (that wasnt how it was worded.) So perhaps Corsair = Setzer/Cait Sith/Selphie? Despite this, alot of people sound like they think COR/RNG or COR/BRD will be good subs. Really, I was thinking COR/WHM or maybe COR/RDM would be good I mean its pretty much a Bard with a "diffrent twist", but whatever.

Blue Mage seems to be stuck at /WHM, but honestly, I'm not as interested in BLU as I used to be. I've never liked BLM, so I dont see why I would like BLU.

I'm very interested in some of the new stuff like Assault, however, and the changes for all the diffrent jobs.

Also I think today's announcement about...(I cant remember the name), but the hotel thing, sounds like a poor idea. Now I dont know about the LSes others have been in but not one has ever said "ok we're having a meeting", thus the reason for the hotel thing sounds...silly

As far as the "Besieged" combat goes I'm wondering what the actual importance of it is? Yes, it sounds fun to fight off raids. But, alright, lets say we lose? What happens? I mean its for control of some special item in the city, but really havent heard any word about what happens if we lose, or win for that matter. SE said that conquest will be diffrent in Aht Urhgan, is this how conquest is performed??

Yes I know they gain control of the item should the beastmen win, but im wondering lets say we win..is it just "okay, that was fun"? Not that it doesnt sound fun to protect against raids, but all SE has said about the device is something like it has been protected within the city (cant remember the name, I keep wanting to call it Aht Urhgan :P), If its lost, and the beastmen take it, what is going to happen (temporarily) in the city? Does certain parts of the city become restricted? Do beastmen start roaming the city? Do the shops have less items similar to conquest? Do the shops stop working altogether? Does the AH no longer work?

Or is it simply, "alright, lets go have some fun and get our item bacK", sort of thing? Which IMO is fun and all but not everyone will find it fun to get the item back/protect it, if there's some other motivation ...

Hmm are you sure you arent partly confusing that with "Assault"? Because in assault you gain higher mercenary rank by doing more Assault Missions, and opens up now Assault Missions.

Assault also sounded like it was instanced if I remember correctly.

If your referring to the ones just coming over from the beta server, there would be probably about 5000 max, spread around FFXI's 16 or so servers, its not bad at all.

I dont see why they dont keep the beta server up and running, its all "isolated". But I guess some things are hard to find there. Whatever, though.

Nowadays, Im a 75BLM, 72SMN (some day I need to top that off), most of my other jobs are 37 (with the exception of DRG, BST, DNC, SCH, and PUP, well, and BLU is 47) I'm working on leveling THF to 75 next with some of my friends who are leveling DNC, might level BRD with them though and THF on my own though, not quite sure yet...yes, I have alot of free time.

I didnt really like Wotg, most of my LS are "dancing around" though, so I'm PLing everyone.

And I had an alliance in like, my first month? For mhaura subjob items <.< And as far as COP goes im on the CS missions after sacrarium, dont remember the numbers.

As far as why I play, im a depressing person, and I play to drown my problems in, not the best reason, but...:/
