I thought that everyone already knew for a FACT that Metal Slug 3d sucks, from the day they announced it.

I mean it's Metal Slug. In 3D. That alone is impossible to pull off. KOF in 3D is possible, because its just a generic fighter game. (this reminds me one of those "10 years of golden gaming on the Neogeo" videos in KOF MI2, which basically went through nothing but fighting games)

Metal Slug just doesnt work in 3d. You cant transfer the precisity, the mood, the action, the controls, the speed, the FEEL of the 2d originals.

PS: playmore is run by the same honcho who ran SNK before it was (purposefully) underfunded and bankrupted. The guy went and formed Playmore and bought back the SNK assets one by one. Unfortunetaly in the process, all the artist and coders and level editors found jobs elsewhere. But, Playmore is definetaly trying and they did pull off a bunch of gems in the past - Metal Slug still shines with the 2d series, KOF starts getting back on track, and theres the frenetic Matrimelee too.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

It wouldn't work. You just can't have the same amount of precision in 3d that is required for a Metal Slug game. You couldn't have the speed and the perfect hitboxes for the game to play right. It would take a lot of creativity to port the visual humor of the game to 3d too.

It would be much better to redraw all sprites in higher resolution (at least on Guilty Gear level) or make the animation even more detailed.

And yes, the game looks awful, but maybe it has redeeming qualities.
For what it's worth, the music is very nice. It's similar to Metal Slug 4 and 5, but with more orchestra.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Hm? I've only listened to the trailer music for MS6 but from what I heard the music got a very positive feedback, at least in japan. With its bunch of remixes from old tunes.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Heck, I can 1cc MS4 but can't even get past mission 2 without being killed in MS5. The level designs were just absolutely horrid in MS5.

And I'm not that sure that Toshikazu Tanaka did the music - did anyone saw the credit list in the game to verify that?

Most amazing jew boots

Dunno where else to post it;

Metal Slug ~Complete Sound BOX~ Announced!
Quote:
To celebrate the 10th year anniversary of the popular action series, Scitron Digital Contents., Inc / Happinet Corporation have announced a collection of all Metal Slug music works in one 8 disc box set labeled "Metal Slug ~Complete Sound BOX~". Included will be the complete compositions from all 7 Metal Slug titles (even Metal Slug, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 4 and the latest Metal Slug 6, all which never received original soundtrack releases), and previously unpublished music from the series that never made it into the games. The set will also feature brand new designs from the series illustrator TONKO and a very special 32 page booklet with many composer comments plus unpublished information! There will also be an exclusive arrange track from Basiscape's Mitsuhiro Kaneda. Manabu Namiki and Kaneda were responsible for creating the score to Metal Slug 6, succeeding Studio AQUA's Toshikazu Tanaka from previous Metal Slug titles.

"Metal Slug ~Complete Sound BOX~" will bear the catalog number SCDC-00542~00549 and will be released on the 6th of September. It will sell at 13,440 Yen ($117 USD), however, there will be strictly limited amounts of this box set available. Stay tuned for more information!
I hope the MS4 music will be proper CD quality instead of the adpcm crap they had in the neogeo games. They just recorded that in every port of MS4 so far, while for other games they ported the music from the soundtrack discs. MS4 had freaking awesome music.

I was speaking idiomatically.
