I didn't think the mosquitos were that bad in my back yard when I was out there the other day, but the grass is long and there's lots of trees so I guess the've got places to hide. I ended up having four large welts on my back and I don't even remember feeling anything land on me [my shirt was covering my back anyways]. one was the size of a quarter, one the size of a dime, and the other two the size of pennies. these were like the xbox of squitter bites.
Skin-So-Soft works wonderfully to keep the bugs off. also if you know you'll be around mosquitos, don't wear any bodyspray or perfumes unless they're citris based. I had a vanilla scent on and I think that attracts bugs, unfortunately.
if you have a problem with the bites itching, which will just make them worse, then I'd suggest washing them off and then using an anti-itch cream. I found Gold Bond worked pretty quick, but it's more of a mind over matter thing I would think. also, I know Sunlight soap works really well on poison ivy rashes, but it could also neutralize whatever's inside the bite to take the itch away. atleast with poison ivy it removes the oil, but I'm not sure if it'll work the same way on mosquito bites.

get yourself some purple martins. they're birds that love to eat mosquitos. my grandfather used to build bird houses that specifically only fit the purple martins, so that's a good way to get them in your area.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
