That's how i remember it. Like i said i don't know what i did or if its just sarcastic humor, i can take a jab jokes. But sorry i came to talk about video games and anime again, mainly why i joined. Guess i'll go elsewhere for that though.

Don't take me seriously cause i don't take you guys seriously. In fact it's just kinda overly silly you took the effort to get the pie chart out (98% now), lighten up.

Yes i have other things that interest me, however i discuss them in real life with friends and or family. I don't talk much about anime or games with them cause they aren't really all that interested which is fine. Hence my reason for being here, if i want to post in just video games or anime section i can.. i mostly did it years ago, i'll do it now.

If you don't like me fine, i'm not a spiteful person and i want to try to get a long with everyone, i don't look to make confrontation or make anyone feel bad. I can take the jab jokes and i assume most of you can as well. Sorry if i did anything to make people feel otherwise, i was just here minding my business. I just didn't think GFF would ever come to making fun of all the threads in the video game section and make it any less than it is.

EDIT: Added to my pie %

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Seems like Kotaku can't rid of the 90 minute rumor thinking it's within the "what we can't talk about in reviews". Don't really care about review scores but seems like everyone including the reviewers are blowing everything out of proportion. Then some getting critical it only got a 8/10 which is still very good based on the group reviewing, doesn't deserve the lashing out it is getting. I'm pretty sure the hefty list of what Kojima doesn't what them to talk about is what the game entails like back when there was all the hush-hush about MGS2.. (spoiler tag for MGS2)
Spoiler:
back when most of the screens and video was all about the tanker incident in the beginning of the game.. was a shock to most people and sometimes to their dismay to control another character and a entirely different area

If anyone else needs it, here is a few more things to help ease the MGS excitement.

On the Playstation Blog it's once again Metal Gear Mondays, they have the top 12 tips for MGS4 - spoiler free, in fact this is some stuff we've already talked about such as Stress and Psyche gauge, just more in depth. Also talks about when Snake goes into a "Combat High" what the advantages and repercussions could result in:
PSB - Metal Gear Mondays - Top 12 Tips MGS4.

Gametrailers has Part 2 of the Bonus Round table discussion with David Hayer (voice of Snake), N'Gai Croal (Editor in Tech, Newsweek), and Rob Smith (Editor in Chief, PSM). Summary of it is just talking about how Snake and the gameplay has developed over the years.. about him aging and how the gameplay is more global user friendly:
Gametrailers: Bonus Round Part 2.

Last but not least is the MGS4 World Tour Signing Website with the tour locations and dates of when they'll be around to sign autographs. Hideo Kojima, Yoji Shinkawa, David Hayter, Yumi Kikuchi, Ken Imaizumi, and Ryan Payton will all be available for autographs except on release day (midnight) Kojima and team will be at the New York signing while other half in LA. I'm hoping i can make it to the San Francisco signing on the 14th, would be awesome.

Everything, spoiler free (shhhh Konami is watching me.... i must stay within their limitations on which to talk about MGS4).

EDIT: They just put up the 4th MGS Retrospective on Gametrailers, discusses MGS 3: Snake Eater / Subsistence and Portable Ops. There are spoilers for those who haven't played those games (no MGS4 spoilers), but it's pretty nice and thorough. Gametrailers.com - Metal Gear Retrospective - Part Four, enjoy.

How ya doing, buddy?

MGS4 Midnight Launch @ Gamestop/EB Game Locations. There ya guys go its in PDF format from Gamestop themselves, my area is on the list i'm so excited. 29 pages looks like a lot are doing it. Not only the game but the MGS4 bundle as well. Hope those got on the list as well for your gaming pleasure.

Probably gonna steer clear for awhile myself of MGS4 threads and sites, but gonna wait a couple days.

EDIT: Also for got to include that if you're going to one of Kojima and team autograph signings, don't bother to lug extra collectibles around. For the sake of time and getting everyone in there, he's only signing the MGS4 game sleeves which they'll sign and give to you (totally agree with the method). They also won't allow pictures but i guess you can try and get a quick one with a friend or family member off to the side.. really don't see harm in that while he's autographing for you. Here's a picture of the sleeve and the autographs courtesy of Mattyblog, more info here.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I rarely buy guides, but for MGS4 it's somewhat of a collectors item for me. I'm getting the MGS4 collectors edition might as well get the CE strat guide too. I did notice it was to release before game, dunno if it's still true or not seeing one person here hasn't had confirmed shipping yet, but i got mine from Amazon because it was a bit cheaper and said to be shipped on the 12th. Of course if it came earlier no way am i opening it.

So the guide will be there after i complete the game on my own and i want to go back and see if i missed anything. I know i played MGS and MGS2 enough times to find easter eggs here and there, but i'm just now finding things out in MGS3.. for those who didn't play/finish MGS3 spoiler tag added.
Spoiler:
I didn't know about "The End" boss fight that you could save the game at that point and forward the games internal clock or wait a week or so and you can beat him by old age. Also the torture part with Big Boss, if you save around them you can play a weird minigame where it's like a guy with 2 canes?? And he's beating up lots of zombie like creatures.. Big Boss then wakes up claiming it to be some kind of nightmare.

I took a break from gaming on consoles at least, cursed MMORPGs, and i wasn't up to date to most console games around that time, dunno how you can miss that stuff. So guides will help me find anything and everything, that i'd wanna go back and do. But like i said i rarely get guides and its more for the collection and other stuff they got in it.

Another topic, while they still had rumors to what Kojima wanted limited by reviewers in their reviews, Producer Ryan Payton cleared things up for everyone stating that they didn't care if they talked about cutscene length or install times, just that they wouldn't say when or what the cutscenes contained as it'd spoiler the experience for players knowing when to expect these. He said the longest cutscene is gonna be the ending. Install time is around 6 minutes with 2-3 minute installing between acts. He went on to say that the other limitations were for product placements and areas in which the game are played in.

Also i'm still curious to what the "surprise" will be for people who are buying MGS4 on the date.. he said that there was gonna be a surprise and Kotaku is thinking its downloadable content. Geez the date is so close and i'm on the edge of my seat.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Got the game at the midnight release and so far i'm happy with the game. Not gonna discuss much about it till i actually finish it but i got no real gripes about the game, the PMC AI at least for Solid Natural is pretty good, better than the previous games.

Question is though, and it's not a spoiler, what was the big secret surprise they had for people buying it? Thought Ryan Payton said they'd have some nice in store for us, is it downloadable content or something to MGO?

Another is what happened to the complex CQC moves like the videos showing Snake grabbing a PMC to the ground and submitting that way? (yes the butt sex one)

Lastly, i was hoping the LE game box would open differently, i mean its cool how it opens but it kinda disrupts Yoji Shinkawa's art. Anyways, great game so far, seems like a lot of many ways to play and advance in missions.

EDIT: Forgot the artbook came with the Gamestop LE game.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Ah thanks guys, i guess i haven't completely gone through everything. Just assumed the Mission Briefing was to view the interactive cutscenes again. I'll have to try next time i play, it defiantly has replay value which i'll do again and again, i mess up a lot as it is.

Ahh, so intense. I just finished watching the mission briefing after the first act, I clocked in at almost 7 hours for the act. Haha, though this mostly because I was dicking around racking up Drebin Points. There's also a lot of items laying around if you actually take the time to explore. Even stuff like weapon attachments such as the dot sight, supressors, laser sight, and master key (well this one comes off a PMC soldier). Procuring weapons from site is definitely money saving. I think the only thing I've purchased from Drebin, other than unlocking IDs on weapons I found, is a hand grip for assault rifles.
Yeah i love the weapon mods and the whole idea about it, i only have the hand grip myself but probably gonna get the dot sight and rifle scope next, hand grip seems like a must have especially in boss fights and if you don't have auto-aim.

Regarding the mission briefing prior to act 2...
Spoiler:
Haha, it looks like Rose is Campbell's wife! I was not expecting that! I also wasn't really expecting Meryl to dispise Campbell that much either. Heh, though at least we saw/know why now.
Spoiler:
I thought it was kinda weird, oh well. When we first saw her she was just walking around the back of Campbell and then gave him some tea, didn't know who it was till little bit later.
She's foxy now though, rawr.

BTW, did anyone actually check out the iPod? Haha, man it's so neat, especially...
Spoiler:
how there's a KPR podcast with Ryan Payton. That was definitely something nifty. And I'm really hoping they do more of these.
I thought that was neat but when i found it and flipping through the iPod i was too immersed into the game to listen to it all.

Thanks again for CQC tip off, gonna have me some more fun.

I'm in act 2 and I have to say from the violence to the dialogue and just the atmostphere this definitely has to be the darkest MGS game by far but I love it. It's nice to see a darker take on the MGS universe, anyone else agree?
Yeah i can it is a bit, i dunno if it's cause we know it's Snake's last game or something but aside from gameplay and stuff the whole atmosphere actually makes you feel like you got your back to the wall and you're just struggling, if this is Kojima's intent, then he pulled it off very well. It's bittersweet, but its definitely got another feel to it than the other games.

I'm in Act 4 and been happy with the locations you go too, the boss battles are fun for the most part in a sense at least to me they take a damn while at least 10-30 minutes depending on the boss, maybe i suck lol. But they certainly are a bit unique, for example first boss..
Spoiler:
after you "break off their Beast armor" and you fight the beauty i thought that was kind of cool that you get to set them free, though it's easy it's a nice touch

I just finished the game couple hours ago and i'm truly shocked, awesome game overall and has replay value. It's really different from the rest of the series in terms of mood, what Kojima is trying to represent through Snake all this struggling and his battles is really showing off well. But like they said all the story and everything else wraps up nicely. If anyone has questions i can help or discuss when i can reach them, though i'm sure others will get to them.

Gonna talk about Act 3 for a bit..
Spoiler:
I really liked the idea that we get to re-live somewhat the ending of MGS3 where you're riding on the bike with Big Mama/Eva in the chase gameplay. It was just so fun and when the action slowed down for cinematic parts i thought it was a nice touch, only wish it was longer. But i like that nostalgia feel to MGS3.

Act 4, mainly about location..
Spoiler:
Holy shit, Shadow Moses. Not like it didn't get a face lift on the Gamecube from Twin Snakes, but certainly memories arose from 1998. Loved the narrative flashbacks and just weird seeing it all untouched.

Also when Otacon stopped Snake before the Blast Furnace to tell him to switch out Disc 1 to Disc 2 was genius.

Act 4 at the end..
Spoiler:
Ah finally! Just as i expected from some of the trailers REX and RAY fight. I thought this to be so awesome i wish they could've implemented this some more but for the duration and the timing i thought it to be a truly epic moment in the game. Snake using REX, the very thing he fought and beat that started it all to assist him now.

Act 5..
Spoiler:
Screaming Mantis is probably my favorite boss fight. I was wondering what Kojima would do to keep one of the famous MGS1 boss fights on par with 4 and i thought it was amazing. It's easy, but the stuff that you had to do was a long process i guess. The Psycho Mantis part i thought was funny no memory card and i don't have a Dualshock 3 controller yet so he got shafted twice lol. Anyone with a Dualshock 3 did it rumble and if so what did he say after it? Me being without he was just shocked that his powers didn't work and fell apart.

Act 5, very end..
Spoiler:
I got misty eyed while Snake was going through the microwave corridor, the music and him struggling to get to the end at the door i was really tapping the buttons to help him get there, was very dramatic i thought. Previous i didn't have my health at full so was kinda worried and can't use rations or something to re-fill. But it really got me to tear up, go on Snake you can do it.

Another epic hand to hand fight. I liked how they went through the different MGS themes fighting and thought it was very well presented. They could've done without the labeling the music though, it felt very commercial to me but still didn't ruin the moment. Even the life gauges changed to fit the combat style and previous games after some punches were thrown and you both reset to duke it out again, great stuff. Very nicely wrapped up.

WARNING - HUGE SPOILER Ending..
Spoiler:
This is where i was shocked and i'm sure most others, i liked how it ended and it truly did settle things once and for all. And i'm glad to see our favorite Old Snake still alive amongst us.

And Rose isn't married to Campbell overall! Whew, well he was a nice guy to do that, i still think she's a fox, lucky ass Raiden.

Great game overall, up there was my favorite in the series next to 3, 1, and 2.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Act 4 is full of win.

BB Corps made me nervous too, all of them like the bosses in MGS1 i think. Except for some of them it took me longer to finish than i guess usual.

I'll mix up the BB corps just in case no one wants to know which one they're gonna fight next alothough a couple are pretty obvious.

Laughing Octopus:
Spoiler:
I had to do this a couple of times cause her rolling hurts really bad i thought i could spare a ration but she got me. Saw her mimic the CT scan machine? I guess it was just the long tubings. She was also mimicking Naomi but can clearly see it's Laughing Octopus and i think she even did a Haven Trooper i thought was just there before fighting Laughing Octopus. Plus the sound of laughter made it all the experience that much weird.

Crying Wolf:
Spoiler:
Just the location alone is intense and always Haven Troopers on you. This one took me the longest cause at first it was hard to find her and i was thinking you have to take out the troopers first, i was wrong they keep coming. Wasn't till after i beat her i noticed i could go higher onto the buildings and probably snipe her out, but then she wouldn't notice you and you need to get her to come out of her armor to damage her. I think she made me the most nervous.

Screaming Mantis:
Spoiler:
Favorite fight in the game aside from the REX and RAY fight, sorry it's a spoiler within a spoiler but if you're reading this and fought Screaming Mantis already then you defiantly did the REX and RAY fight. I thought this was the most enjoyable boss fight cause it was more interactive. Took a little bit to figure out but it was genius to make use of different items to make the battle work. I couldn't figure out why i couldn't shot her so i aimed for a doll and tada! This fight was pretty intense as well seeing all these "puppets" floating about even Meryl, so nostalgic. Can't wait to try these dolls a second time around gonna be fun.

Raging Raven:
Spoiler:
She wasn't all that bad since you are somewhat safe inside the little tower, she can be hard to spot with the others flying around i just thought i was gonna run out of ammo, but i didn't. And i don't think you can thanks to Drebin. When she gets beat up she retreats to a nearby rooftop and thought that as cool, though think see was one of the easiest. Yumi Kikuchi is hot.

MGS4 still lives up to the epic boss fights as its predecessors. Good job Kojima and Team.

For Shenlon if you're still stuck..
Spoiler:
It's pretty easy once you start just head ahead and to the right of the thing you start behind. There is a ladder and immediately go up it they won't spot you, from here you need to go across to the other catwalk and drop down quietly. Now you have the upper hand to sneak around/sleep dart them.

I haven't got my strategy guide yet and starting my second play through, trying to go all the way non-lethal. I noticed the FROGs statue in at the end of the fight in the parking garage. There are some for the B&Bs? Is it after actually fighting them and you face their beauty?

I found it amazing that i'm seeing stuff i haven't seen before the first time around playing the levels mainly in Act 2..
Spoiler:
The PMC that is taking a leak off a bridge, took picture of that. And i guess Naomi's bra on some rocks and her shoes little bit more ways on the ground didn't notice before when you're tracking her down. Also i was slow to do it but when Snake and Naomi are talking in the research lab and she sits on the bed and Snake goes for a smoke and "drops" it, you can actually press L1 and look at her. I gotta go back and do this cause it let me for a split second when i tried.

As for the non-lethal take down of the bosses, you can still use regular guns like M4 custom or whatever to break them down until your fight their beauty right? I just assumed that's how it worked cause they aren't exactly finished off till the beauty comes after you. (sorry i didn't mark as spoiler cause this should be pretty obvious by now.. i'll edit if it's a problem)

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Well guess i'm stopping my second time through again lol, just got strategy book and read up on a lot more things. You can apparently get the camera during any Mission Briefing cutscenes with the Mk.II/III. If you don't have it by Act 4 you get a special Naomi picture that'll automatically show up in your photo album.

Another reason i'm gonna play through is cause of a couple more secrets. this is mainly about all the B&B beauty fights. No real spoiler but it's a secret. Apparently if there is no result before 3 minutes of the Beauty fight conclusions they go into a "white world" (hadn't seen this) and a countdown of 3 minutes begins to take them out. During this time you can use the camera and they'll actually pose for you. Also having the iPod on to the song Hantei said, "Oishii Two-Hand Seikatsu" they'll dance for you, too bad can't get picture of that as same time. So i'm wanting to check this out.

It's also possible to take photos of it. Just set the Camera to 2nd Person, and re-equipped the iPod. The screen will be of the appearance of a camera lense and you just hit R1 on a second controller (with it turned on of course) to take the picture.
Guess i'll need another controller sometime, find myself going back a lot and saving before the boss battles so i can do over and over.. at least i'm a expert at the Laughing Octopus fight, the first time doing that she scared me shitless. Thanks for the tip!

I've manged to take a lot of interesting pictures and uploading them to share with you guys over time, feel free to do the same. I see Shenlon has been doing the same as well. Kind of funny, first time through all about MGS4.. Snake.. and closure. Second time through it's all about the B&B Corp and a camera! Oh and playing game through non-lethal and getting trophies.. yeah thats what i meant.

Here's a couple i uploaded, i'll do some more later but i thought this was a good one of Laughing Beauty:
Spoiler:

Like i said i'll do more later, just figured out how to do this all and need to save them to my PS3 later. Also only up past the Raven fight, so i'll play and collect more pictures. So wish i had 2nd controller now.

Also i've been playing some MGO if anyone wants to add me, PSN: RaajTM Konami ID/Name: Solid Raaj.

Finally, looks like getting Big Boss emblem is insane. Finish game in under 5 hours, no alerts, no continues, no hurting anyone, no recovery items all while on Boss Extreme. The reward seems cool considering what it does, first time through i think i got "Hawk"

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Did everyone download the Database? It is fucking thorough.
Just got it a little while ago and it sure seems like it. If you've only played MGS4 and tempted to play the others, the information on here would probably further push you to play the games. Or don't even want to bother with the games (though i HIGHLY recommend playing them all) this will fill you in on absolutely everything. This would've been so much helpful when trying to figure out MGS2, or at least MGS4 probably helps explain what it was all about.

Good job to everyone that put that together, must have for any fan i think.

Just filling up this space so i can lead up to the spoiler tag, la la la la - ok so this is what i perceived about Ocelot.
Spoiler:
Like Big Boss said to Snake at the end about Ocelot going through mental suggestion about him "being Liquid" is that Liquid never did take over his body. Big Boss went on talking about something like nanomachines and Liquids arm that was put in place of Ocelots never could resemble another identity let alone be someone else completely.

I think Ocelot did this as a ploy to further keep the Patriots watchful eye on him. And in the end i think, he was being exactly like The Boss (his mother) like she sacrificed herself and everything she was for her countries ideals. He told Snake that this is exactly how he planned it from the beginning, everything would start over. Though he also wanted Big Boss' idealism that still made him the enemy so to speak. And Big Boss himself realized he was wrong, this isn't what The Boss wanted.

So in the end of it all i couldn't see him truly as bad as we thought of him to be, he just really wanted to follow in Big Bosses footsteps while trying to keep The Bosses legacy to co-exist with the other. Ocelot really looked up to Big Boss and that's exactly how he got started in all this when he heard Liquid, one of the sons of Big Boss was doing that stuff on Shadow Moses and decided to join his ranks. That's just the way i thought of it to be.

As for Drebin giving the shot to Snake to get Big Boss at the end, i never thought of it that was but it makes sense.

I won't even go into the plot itself, how many weird plot holes need filling, or how it's convoluted, trips over itself at every available opportunity, or is just plain full of itself.
I dunno MGS2 took me a couple times to even understand most of the things going on. Even Kojima himself that was probably one thing he regretted making the story maybe too complex. I'm trying to think of one thing in MGS4 where there was a plot hole or i didn't understand, i thought the game wrapped up everything throughout the whole series story wise and actually made some sense.
Quote:
But the actual, y'know, GAMEPLAY here is failure to the nth degree. Almost every segment is completely linear. There's one exit for most areas. The paths that ARE there don't really leave a lot to the imagination or present options on how you're gonna handle it. Act 1 handled level design the best, but fuck if it didn't turn to shit shortly after.
I agree it was pretty much linear and sometimes the loading screens needed you to confirm that "yes i wanna continue!" but after my second time through i found some new areas, mainly South America and Europe parts i hadn't been through before. The difficulty changes rotues i think as well such as the following that resistance member. Middle East though i thought was great, but i totally agree it's pretty much linear and you're pointed in the way to go. But hey it beats spending 80% of a game on some offshore oil facility.
Quote:
Some of the combat options you're given are weak. How many of the plethora of guns did anyone really use? I think the game told me I had fourty of the damn things and I remember using no more than 8. One lethal pistol, one tranq one, the mosin, the m14, the M4,
Spoiler:
the rail gun
, the stun knife, and the chaff grenades. Most of that other shit? Useless. And speaking of which, why can you BUY THINGS? Honestly here, part of the reason you'll be sneaking and knifing and so forth is because you have to get by with what you get. But now I can buy tranq ammo? Yeah, that changes on BBH, but still. The whole game changes because you can be far more liberal with your supplies.
Chose your poison? On The Boss Extreme and maybe Big Boss Hard as you know ammo overall is ridiculously limited to other ammo quantities than the previous difficulties. And there is also a few more weapons to unlock through certain gameplay conditions. This is where i found the game to be at its most fun, the different styles you can play and the conditions if you ever felt so compelled to accomplish. The solar gun is hysterical to use especially when Snake recharges and The Patriot which i have yet to unlock seems really nice. I'd have to agree that there is a lot of other weapons one will probably never touch but i guess it goes along with the type of gamer are you the collector type or just happy with what you work with. I did find some better guns to play with after playing awhile such as the sniper rifle the Kojima recommends, before that i never really spent a lot of time in Drebin's shop i guess. As for the chaff grenades, they seemed pretty much useless until Act 4 at certain parts. Can't even buy from Drebin.
Quote:
I won't complain about the story. That's a love or hate it deal, and I most certainly belong to the last camp. If I rant about that, it'd be pages and pages. But I'm interested in how anyone can enjoy this as a GAME. It seriously boggles my fucking mind.
I can say i enjoyed it overall, with a few disgruntled areas such as areas being linear and the confirmation of continuing in next area. There were a few more things but for me the positives outweighed the negatives. I can see how people won't like it much cause its pretty much a different kind of game on its own than from the series which can either be a good or bad thing. Shit i tried playing MGS2 and MGS3 again and i was angered cause i didn't have full control of the camera and the pressure sensitive first person aiming/shooting, i guess that took more skill.

After playing it through 3 times i'm kind of all MGS'd out for the moment. I'll try The Boss Extreme next time after i take a break from it.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I was just mostly making conversation, i didn't want to seem like i was coming off to defend it in its entirely or bash what you had to say cause you have good valid points. For the sake of me being redundant though, i agree mostly with what you brought up, the linear gameplay didn't leave much to exploring except probably the first time through. When you play it again and again you can go straight from one are to another with ease. The loading and cutscenes, although they were good, there were some parts it slowed gameplay and pretty much in some situations the mood we were in.

Also the gun variety, there is so many pistols and assault rifles.. don't think many would try them all out if there is one you can pretty much customize to do everything even double as a shotgun for short range encounters or a grenade launcher. The only time i think i was forced to try out a newer gun was my first play through i ran out of bullets with my M4 Custom with Raging Raven. I didn't think to buy more at Drebin's cause i wanted to save up points and i switched to another that held like 200-300 rounds at a time so i wouldn't be re-loading regularly. But overall i still loved the game, just thought i'd bring up some alternative points.

Anyways, i came across some Japanese site through Kotaku, i wish i could read it.. and saw some weird pictures mostly this one:

and.. gonna spoiler it just for the sake of it possibly being a spoiler - it's of Laughing Beauty:
Spoiler:

WTF.. i dunno how or where that Sunny and Naomi picture was taken. Here's the site if anyone is interested Hatimaki Blog - MGS4, it's got some more Laughing Beauty and other weird images as well as a video of even more. Just thought it was a weird thing to share.

Oh yeah don't know if anyone noticed but during Act 4.. (nothing spoiled story wise)
Spoiler:
I never really done this before but just before going into the lower ventilation shaft in Shadow Moses in the beginning i somehow moved the camera to over the top and Snake went on a trip about it saying "Over-the-top view, yeah, just like old times. Over the top." and was awarded Drebin Points like flashbacks, i never seen this recorded so its new to me.

EDIT: Oh yeah another thing i forgot to add to the top of the post. Is it me or does it look like Mei Ling has man hands? LOL i like Mei Ling, she's cute she just seemed to have had abnormally large hands for a lady. Gotta see the ending to see what i mean.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Just finished act 4. The bosses were easy though:

Spoiler:
Crying Wolf - I just waited under the tank and kept shooting with a sniper rifle at it when it was close. Took a while, but it was all too easy.
Vamp - It was a bit of a trick to find out how to do proper CQC (since I never use that), but especially with the tranquillizer-gun and well-aimed shots at his head could take him out very fast.
RAY - C'mon, all I had to do it shoot the damn thing.
That's what i did for the "no alert" play through takes a bit of a time waiting but eventually you get the shots. The bosses are though ridiculously easy i sorta wished they were a bit harder, however first time through i struggled maybe. but afterwards once you know what you're doing can zip through them like nothing.

About the end of Act 4:
Spoiler:
Aww if all you did was shoot you're missing out on a few tricks. My first time playing i didn't realize i could've switched out to AT missiles and the Laser gun. They seem to have a different animation when you get in close to RAY for the Triangle attack such as jumping on him and while jumping off lasers go wild on him. There is another that ends up spreading lots of missiles on him as well. And if you're close to a building you ram RAY up against the side. Easy enough, but thats the kind of fights i've been waiting for in the Metal Gear serie, probably my favorite fight in the entire game. Very rewarding.

How ya doing, buddy?

Heh, and I finally found some Akina poster's, Snake exclaims "Akina!" or "It's Akina!" when he sees them.
I never saw the ones in Act 3 till my last play through when the resistance member took another route. We ended up going the through park and there is a statue part where you can pose really quick and he ends up coming back to "relieve" himself in front of you. After that we came across a couple guards.. he back trailed and yelled "hey look at this!" tossed a grenade and ran making all guards go into caution, i got pissed at him. But after that all cleared i met up with him starring at her picture. I read about it but something i always forgot to actually do, haven't seen the other she is laying down it's under one of those bridges with the waterway and the helicopter going around right?

Regarding the database, anyone notice how on there they claim Big Boss' first name is John. That's gotta be a mistake right? As he was always refered to as Jack in MGS3, and I was under the assumption that John (Doe) was just a bogus name he gave to Ocelot when he asked BB for his name.
I just recently played through the first parts of MGS3 couple weeks ago and he did refer to himself as John or John Doe, i couldn't remember about Jack. So i looked it up and he does go by both names, just those closer to him i guess wants to call him Jack. Here's the link about him Metal Gear Wiki - Big Boss, like always its cluttered with spoilers so look at your own risk. He went by a few other names too. It's funny how the main characters like Solid Snake and Raiden, including Big Boss have very common run of the mill names.

Quote:
Haha, yea apparently you get those bonus pictures if you picked up the camera during Act 4's briefing.
Damn wish i wasn't so thorough lol that picture is hilarious given the situation and those two.

Oh yeah, about Assassin play through if you're going for the emblem which also leads to Altair costume. Just for the record if anyone missed out on the chance to get Knife counts or CQC the first 2 Acts where they're easier. In Act 5 you could seclude yourself to an area with just one Haven Trooper and keep doing a knife stun or CQC grab and then wake them up and redo it again, it'll count. I did this because i use to do CQC and then Knife Stun them thinking it counted but it didn't, only the CQC counted. So just FYI.

The camo sounds interesting i'll have to get them next time i played. I took a break from playing it awhile cause i was going to try and attempt the Big Boss Emblem. I'm kind of hesitant but i'm gonna try, only real hard part i played on Solid Normal without using a recovery item and non-lethal was the Act 3 chase sequence, it's like they have certain enemies that only shoot at you and so you need to aim for them first. I had to re-do lots of times to figure out which ones did it, but the smoke grenades blue and green (which make them cry or scream) work well for when the chase stops at certain points and the Twin Barrel with V-Ring ammo is perfect even though reloading after every shot kinda sucks, it's easier to pin point than the Mk. II tranq even though landing a shot anywhere knocks them out. Thanks for the camo info be something nice to play with.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

for those who've played through the game with no kills:

Spoiler:
how do you beat screaming mantis? when i played through the game the first time, i noticed that both the health and stamina bar decrease when you shake the controller. does this count as a kill? and also, when you fight the BBs in their armored form, does using lethal weapons count as a kill even though they don't really die? and another, does destroying those metal ball things and the geckos count as kills?

I just want to make sure before I start a no kill, no alert game.
What DarthSavior said.
It does not count as a kill. On my first playthrough I beat her with that method and still got the item you get for killing a Beast via non-lethal means.
IF you use lethal weapons resulting in emptying their life bar while in armored, yes it counts. You still need to use non-lethal if you're doing the whole game that way, Screaming Mantis is the only exception like he said. If it's your first play through only way you can tell is by collecting their trophy during the Beauty phase, so make sure to pick them up along the way if you're doing non-lethal. Good thing is, if you did collect one or more, you only have to collect the one you didn't get from previous playthrough.

As the metal balls and Gekkos, no they don't count, anything unmanned like the Strykers(sp?) tanks, flying machines, and so forth are fine. Except those guys in the armor suits only in Act 2 during the getaway part. Chaff grenades don't work on them at all like the strategy guide suggests, if you have the Solar Gun fully charged shots at them work though.

Quote:
(for people who went through a "no-kill" run) I played through Act 2 on Hard and the part where

Spoiler:
Where you're on Drebin's vehicle with the machine gun and you're fighting off the Gekkos/soldiers, it pisses me off when the soldiers climb right in front of you when you're pummeling the Gekkos with the machine gun, giving you a kill. How do you people prevent yourself from accidentally killing soldiers who try to climb up in your machine gun's line of fire?
I guess just be more conservative shooting like aim at the Gekko's head/neck area and be choosy about when to shoot. Could take out 3-4 Gekko then get off the gun CQC the PMCs that climb up. I think thats where i mistakenly got my only one and had to replay the chapter after Laughing Octopus over again so it wouldn't be there. Best advice i could give.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
