Maybe it's not cool to like Blind Guardian anymore in the eyes of "true" metal fans, but I still don't give a fuck - they're my favorite band, and it's because I like them, not because of some cultural popular movement.
If you calm down and go back to reading her whole post, you'll see she wasn't saying anything negative about Blind Guardian or Iced Earth. Relax ~

Also, omfg so many concerts coming to France. Finntroll in december of course, but also that one I think Morrigan would particularly like:

http://cernunnos.lesacteursdelombre.com

And finally:
Ensiferum at Élysée Montmartre (Paris) on 9 Apr 2008 – Last.fm

It isnt announced anywhere else but on last.fm though so I'm wary ...

First link doesn't work for me.
Well, it's basically a Pagan/Medieval indoor festival taking place in the biggest concert room/nightclub of Paris. There will be:

Eluveitie
Skyforger
Bran Barr
Stille Volk
Varg
Heidevolk
Aktarum
Niflheim
Folge dem wind
Itakk
Bella Sorte

The last 2 are medieval/folk bands. That and animations, shops, restaurants, all in a kind of "medieval" fashion heh. I was mentioning you since Stille Volk will be there, who are the Hantaoma guys. =)

I can't wait to see Heidevolk, personally. <3

I was speaking idiomatically.

Yeah, I had checked Heidevolk a while ago but for some reason didn't really pay much attention, but I tried them again and I do like them.

Let me know if you have anything you recommend in that list. Yeah, I'm lazy and will let you do my work for me since you have a headstart. Other than Stille Volk, are there any non-metal bands in there or are those all folk metal?
Eluveitie is nice as well and should be awesome live. They're actually pretty popular nowadays, I think. Bran Barr I listened in the past but I only remember something quite generic. Honestly, except maybe for Heidevolk, I probably wouldnt go to any of those band's standalone gigs. The idea of the festival is what seducing me. =p

I bought my tickets for this and Finntroll btw. The huge april concert with Moonsorrow, Ensiferum etc ... seems to have good chances to be confirmed, after all.

Also, I'm in a Falkenbach phase. I always liked him but never like I do these days. Amusing how music likings come and go.

Listening to new Astrofaes now. So, so far away from Those Whose Past is Immortal that I loved so much. Very different sound and atmosphere. Don't know what's up with them. =/

Also, even if kinda simplistic overall, an interesting read:

So looks like this should be another Black Metal exploration winter for me. Gave Immortal's discography another shot and I'm fucking digging it this time (/noob). Alongside this, lotsa randoms like Kataxu, Curse, Kampfar, Kroda, Sykdom, Valfeanor and early Ulver. First Curse album and Kampfar in general particularly stuck out.

How ya doing, buddy?

Don't know Omnia but I don't really like Hedningarna and Corvus Corax. Too modern heh. =p

Luc Arbogast will be here at the Cernunnos festival too. Not too pagan since he plays a lot of medieval religious songs, but that's not an issue for me heh. ^_^

Also, continuing my rediscovery of 2nd wave Norwegian Black Metal with early Gorgoroth, Carpathian Forest or even Dimmu Borgir. Fucking loved Carpathian Forest in particular.

edit: spent the afternoon on Hades and Aeternus. Fuck, does the awesomeness ever ends ?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I couldnt explain what I find too modern about their sounds, but that's how I feel. I like a ton of other neo-medieval/folk bands or even stuff like Shandmaul, but those 2 just never made it for me. It's been a while for Corvus Corax though so maybe I should try again.

Ew @ didjeridoo, but I'll listen to those. Thanks =p

No, I'm sure I'd enjoy didjeridoo in the heat of the Australian nature and landscapes, just not in my European folk. =p

So my world these past weeks has been made of the snowy soundscapes of early Norwegian Black Metal, and I've finally grown to appreciate bands that my ears were deaf to until then. Darkthrone, Gorgoroth, Gehenna, Carpathian Forest, Immortal, Dimmu Borgir, Aeternus, Emperor, Enslaved, Helheim ...

For now I still can't seem to like Marduk and Mayhem, who seem to miss that particular atmosphere I discovered in the others. Confirm Y/N ?

Also, any recommendations ?

I've tried listening to it a few times and it's never stuck. I suppose I'll give it another spin.
Well it is pretty different from the rest, but I thought it had a kinda 70s prog rock feel to it, so yeah.

Upon bringing up the copy I have on my hard-drive, my dislike can probably be attributed to the horrendous quality of the rip I have. I'm downloading a high-quality one right now.
In-before you hate it anyway. xD

So, for example, how do you like Carpathian Forest's Journey Through The Cold Moors Of Svarttjern ?

I listened to First Spell again, with the same conclusion. I didn't dislike it as much as I used to, as the keyboards were a lot higher in the mix on this copy, but it still didn't do it for me. I think it was the vocals mostly. They were too... I don't know, clean-sounding?

Anyway, don't hate it, just doesn't do it for me.
Yeah, I actually wondered why it has such a good reputation among troo black metallers because of that but heh.

I guess you don't like Bak De Syv Fjell either then ?

I personally felt kinda "meh" towards the latest Rhapsody albums. Didn't hate it, didn't love it, but definitely couldn't find the melodic genius they used to have. It's still technically impressive, but all in all feels kinda rehashed, imo.

I'd like to recommend you guys the Canadian band Woods of Ypres, a black/melodic/doom/borderline-pop/metal band. Their album "Pursuit of the Sun & Allure of the Earth" is a freaking masterpiece to me, and the rest is pretty good too and will please non metalheads as well. I had the pleasure to attend one of their shows in Toronto a couple years ago before the singer David Gold tragically passed away earlier this year right after he finally signed to a major label.

Finally, anyone into Alestorm ? If not, what's wrong with you that you don't like PIRATE METAL ?

I had the pleasure of playing two shows with Woods. My band opened for them in Regina and Saskatoon on two consecutive tour dates when our schedules crossed paths. They were awesome guys and great performers. The whole Winnipeg metal scene wore black armbands that christmas.
No way man. I definitely saw pics of you on Facebook then. I met Dave only briefly at this Toronto show, but his death deeply saddened me. He was such a talented, likable guy.

Well, my last hope for 2012 went down. The new Finsterforst sucks too ... Well, "sucks" is kinda harsh, but it's by no means half as good as their latest before that.

Well, the latest Finntroll album, Blodsvept, is pretty cool. It's more folky this time and a bit lighter compared to the dark and heavy last 2 albums (Ur Jordens Djup and Nifelvind). It's like a heavier version Nattfodd, but not as "funky".

Also, I still don't understand what they're singing about. I just like how it sounds.
The cover art is TERRIBAD but I actually liked the album a lot, yah

New Turisas is ... meh ... :/

New Satyricon is surprisingly good ! Best thing they did since Volcano imo. There's even a clean vocal song on it that's actually pretty awesome. Very catchy riffs and complex song structures through the whole album. I dunno, I really like it so far.
