Pokemon - The New Dub
For anyone that doesn't know yet: 4Kids no longer has anything to do with the Pokemon and will no longer be dealing with the series in any form or fashion. Pokemon USA - Nintendo's branch of dealing with the franchise has taken over all aspects of it and as of today on CN, the new dub (starting at the Battle Frontier season) premiered.
Honestly...it's not that bad. Supposedly its been getting good reviews with just 1-2 days out. For those that don't know - thanks to a rather underhanded clause in the 4Kids contracts which nobody caught on to, none of the original voice cast for the major characters are allowed to reprise thier roles in the new dub, so Ash, Max, May, Brock, Jessie, James, and Meowth all had to be recast. However - minor voice cast members should be allowed to reprise thier roles. The original narrator (from when the show first premiered) is back. The voices take some getting used to but the general concensus is that the scripts are a lot better. Theres actual silence instead of music all the time, jokes arent spouted out randomly every two seconds. The only drawbacks seem to be James (who sounds more like a depressing raging homosexual than he ever did), Jessie (who sounds a bit more like a valley girl), and Meowth (who's VA really needs some work in getting the role better. The voices take some getting used to, but its not as ear grinding as the DBZ voice changes. From what I'm hearing there's even some of the original Japanese music sprinkled in with the American soundtrack. Overall though, its still the same old Pokemon (stand alone stories, periods of filler, no heavy storytelling), but in terms of presentation it just kinda feels a little bit better in terms how certain aspects of the show are handled. Its amazing how shows no longer under 4Kids seem to morph instantaneously. :P Anyway, does anyone else who's seen it have any opinions on it? Most amazing jew boots ![]()

All of Chronicles was dubbed prior to 4Kids getting the boot. I think it premiered in the UK last year and is only just now going through its run in the states.
There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
