With the exception of the somersaults, the controls work fine. While a choice would have been preferable, it's hardly "fucked up" with the "gimmicky controls". I'd go so far as to say the special items (boomerang, bombs, etc) all work BETTER with a touch screen, and combat and movement don't really suffer either way from the transitition.
With Animal Crossing, you can use either the stylus or the traditional button control setup. I tried the stylus in that game and I've never went back. I'm looking forward to Phantom Hourglass and I'll pick it up when GST checks come in.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
