Got to act II inferno this morning. Died twenty four times getting to the first waypoint. I killed maybe three hornets, and that was it. One hit takes off more than half my health! It's so much fun!!

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Saka, I'm sort of with you there. The automatic progression of leveling stops, and you're stuck with an incredibly incremental progression with the stats of your gear. A cat threw a firebomb at me, critical hit, 37k damage. That was with 50% resist and 50% damage reduction, so the path to success is extremely not clear to me.

Getting the gear seems to be a matter of several million gold per piece in the auction house. I think I was earning gold in act 1 on inferno at about 60k every half hour? So, basically, Diablo III is now a grind fest of several days, so meh. I figure I'll make high level gems and then start over with other classes. Maybe a team of players can leapfrog through the checkpoints of an act and just kill bosses. I found Butcher in Inferno was way easier than some of the elite mobs I encountered on the way (mortar fast waller invulnerable minions)

Why charge gold when there's real money to be made!
It's actually kind of fun to try and apply economic principles to Blizzard's auction house. I mean, gold is being generated constantly, and I'm not sure there is a sufficient drain on it. The 15% transaction fee on the AH serves to suck some of it out, and equipment repairs eats a piece, as does crafting, but I think on the whole we're observing inflationary pressure on gold.

It's exciting to think how translating that to dollars will impact it. IE, if there's a mental threshold for an immaterial amount of real money (ie. a person stops thinking about value comparison at $1 or under), could you actually effect a translation rate between gold and dollars that highly overvalues gold? And will that lead to even more inflation on the value of in-game currency?

I'm looking forward to seeing this thing work. Or break. However it turns out.

Can't you sell Gold in the RMAH? That will be super interesting to see, especially with goldfarmers and stuff. But also what will skew things is that (I believe?) there's a $250 cap on items sold in the RMAH. Up around yesterday it seemed that the conversion from Gold to Money was running about 1 million Gold for $20. But there have already been things that have sold on the AH for what would be the equivalent of approaching $1000 in real money with that conversion. So if that's the case I wonder if we're going to have this weird squeeze where anything super crazy winds up being sold outside of Blizzard due to the $ cap, which will just leave this weird middle ground on the RMAH. Also I'm inclined to say that the value of Gold -> Money will probably drop pretty hard as well.

I expect it to be a total clusterfuck but interesting to watch.
People may just wind up using the gold auction house to trade high value items while pulling real money profit from selling the gold. IE. the RMAH becomes a gold exchange, with all the gold profits from a gold auction house sale being funneled back into the RMAH for conversion to cash.

Based on the faq on how commodities work though, it seems like it could be highly speculative. Hell, you could wind up being some sort of meta character class. The only way you play Diablo is speculating on the real-world currency value of gold.

I wonder if you just cut out the open areas entirely. Spawn the watch tower, then do the crypts, festering woods, leoric's manor -> butcher, if that wouldn't be faster. Basically just lose the old ruins, weeping hollow and southern highlands for being too much running around.

I've almost broken 2M gold for the first time ever. Got to the sewers in Act II also, although by the time I got there, I was down about 100k gold from when I started from repair costs. Fucking firebombs, man. And mortars. Fuck mortars.

The funny thing is my "normal" gear represents only about 1k dps difference to my mf gear right now. Which you would think means I could upgrade relatively cheaply, but I can't find jack that's under 2M, and the 2M is extremely marginal upgrades.

I suspect I'm doing it wrong.

What's your regular DPS at?

My regular gear puts me around 33k or so DPS with Magic Weapon/Force Weapon on. I get around 30k with some MF gear on (~150MF), but my survivability takes a huge hit. I lose something like 10k or 14k hp and my resists/armor take a dump. Finding gear with upgrades across the board can be expensive, yeah, but there's also been some inflation going on. 2M gold just doesn't go as far as it used to.
My resists are crap. =p I don't think any of my equipment has resists on it. I'm using prismatic armor vs. force armor because I don't think things are hitting me for 35% of my health THAT often. I took off magic weapon, so my build is charged bolt with piercing orb, arcane orb with tap the source, teleport with fracture, diamond skin with crystal shell, energy armor and venom hydra.

Basically I diamond skin as often as I can.

My DPS with "regular" gear is literally like 32k vs. 30 now. I think my critical hit chance actually DROPS with my regular gear, but my int goes up by about 100 points. My INT right now is something in the 1600's. My resists with energy armor is between 250-300? I think damage reduction is around 50% for both armor and resists. I've got around 29k life.

The main driver of my dps right now is critical hits. My crit chance is 36% with 150% damage boost. I think my regular gear ups the damage but drops the chance.

I had this fantasy of getting critical hit chance up really high and then putting critical mass on, and keeping diamond skin up forever.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I have a goal of finishing act IV inferno. I suspect that once I hit that, I will drop the game hard. I may try leveling other characters, but hard-core is right out, so I feel I will lose interest pretty quick.

However, with a huge investment of cash, term and I seemed to make decent progress. We completed the catapults with only a few challenging areas.

I'd be interested in trying Ghom together. I bet we could take the bastard. Azmodan is really the only thing I'm actually worried about in Act III because he plays with the damage field thing way more than GHom does. Fuck that guy. Term, let's poop on his face.

Range is key. My strategy has literally been diamond shield to hit him and then run like a bitch until diamond shield respawns. We can do this. If you tank his heart-burn, I'll be all gastro-intestinal bypass on the mofo.

That's the thing. Blizzard isn't actually providing anyone any income. They've washed their hands of that whole deal. Individuals are responsible for reporting and paying tax of their income on their own. I don't know if the third party payment provider (ie. paypal) is required to report cash distributions, but I think it might be. This would explain why you have to categorize the type of payment you are sending when you send it.

What I'm getting at is this dude could have potential tax liability that paypal will be reporting.

Did they really up the damage or did they just clarify? One of the earlier blog posts that was posted mentioned something about changing the language to make it more clear. Ie. 75% damage for five seconds vs. (with 2.0 attack speed) 750% damage over 5 seconds.

OMG Daravon I started playing my mage again, and this morning someone dropped a chantodo's thingy. That's my first super-thingy in ever, I think. I was so excited. But I guess with +50% exp, now would be the time to play all the other classes.

Also agree re: improvements. I had a ton of fun with it, but then travel + work + school + Dark Souls 2 have left me no time to play in quite a while. I honestly wasn't quite sure what I was going to do once I got that ring, but it was a fun goal to pursue and adventure mode definitely kept it fresh.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
