Yes, if you haven't already done so, play Suikoden II. I think you'll enjoy it. The only other advice I would give is to use a walkthrough for IV, assuming that you are determined to play IV. This is not something I normally recommend, but sailing everywhere takes so long that you'll probably appreciate the time saved.
