There's no way to do that on the 360. I don't know about the PS3 but I would guess the same goes.
My advice is to buy a Xbox (non-360, that is) with component cables, and softmod it (or buy one pre-chipped). It's the best DVD/media player you'll ever buy, since you can use XMBC to stream media off any share you have on your network, so no more bullshitting around with that dreaded WMP media library that never works properly. It outputs in HD, and you can even play most emulated systems on it. Shin's idea is also pretty good if you're unwilling to buy an Xbox, but yeah ripping DVDs is a complete pain in the ass. Jam it back in, in the dark.
