I'd say go for Dell's 20.1" widescreen, honestly, the new 2007WFP. It's 1680 x 1050, 12ms, supports HDCP over its DVI port (so you can use it for HD-DVD/Blu-Ray/PS3/whatever else requires HDCP), no backlight bleeding... Overall it's a great monitor. My friends Ed and Sean just got one each, and I've seen then in person—nicer than my old 2005, and with the deals, just as affordable.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

$390 is a good price. And yes it really did get fixed. My friends' displays show no sign of the banding issues.
