They need to be MP3s. If you don't have Bluetooth, you should be fine using the USB cable to transfer stuff using the Motorola tools.
When I get my Verizon RAZR later this summer, I'll be downgrading its firmware to .02 (and then upgrading straight to .04 at the store) so I can use Bluetooth OBEX file transfer with my PowerBook. Kickass! Most amazing jew boots
