Tiger, technologically, is already on par with Vista in most areas. It stands to reason that Leopard will be even more impressive in comparison.
And keep in mind, they're keeping the "really cool" features in Leopard under wraps until MacWorld San Francisco in January '07... which is probably why they devoted so much time to things like Universal Access and notes/to-dos in Mail which, while neat, weren't really cool enough to justify all the time they were given. As for games, I'd say if you're a casual gamer, using Boot Camp to boot up Windows isn't really a big deal when you want to play something that hasn't been ported to OS X. If you play games all the time, it might be a little more onerous. But, there are companies out there trying to create technology that will help game developers port their games to OS X more quickly, so we'll see in the next couple years if that bears any fruit. Plus, considering the upswing we're seeing in Mac market share recently due to the Intel transition, I have a feeling we might start seeing some more game ports anyway. Jam it back in, in the dark.

Also consider that the number of people who even give a shit about "advanced subtitling" (or subtitling/MKV/OGM) compared to the number of people who "watch video on a computer" is quite small indeed. That said, I would be happy if someone would write a cross-platform library for SSA/ASS subtitling. But it doesn't keep me up at nights, and it definitely doesn't keep me from recommending VLC to the legions of people who don't watch anime. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I'm surprised any groups release as soft-subs, honestly. I guess they just don't care about having their scripts stolen by foreign fansubbing groups who freeload off their work. Lord knows being in the Triad I've heard enough people ask "HAY CAN I HAV UR SCRIPTZ?!"
And, .mp4 is more the wave of the future than ogm/mkv I think. Well, at least in mainstream video. And don't get me wrong. It would be nice if there was better softsub rendering libraries for platforms besides Windows. I'm thinking if one appears for Linux, it won't be long before one appears for the Mac. In fact, doesn't the x86 Linux version of mplayer use the old "include Windows dlls/binaries" to get softsub support working? I seem to remember reading that. Not exactly a fix for all the non-x86 Macs out there, but you'd think a similar thing could be done for mplayer on Macs with Intel chips in them. But, I'm no programmer. And honestly, I don't think that one thing can be held as a serious "strike" against OS X as a whole, except if you're an incredibly irrational person. ![]() And yes, definitely getting off topic. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
