40 points - Transistor
Transistor is the closest thing to a perfect game I've ever played. From the art direction, to the music, to the gameplay, everything in this game feeds into each other and works just... amazingly. I love this game to death and back and will hear no arguments about its quality.
30 points - Theatrythm Curtain Call
This is how you do a fucking sequel. Let's take the original game, cram in another game's worth of stuff, and fix the single-player "campaign" to be actually coherent. The fact that they're doing DLC from other series (CHRONO TRIGGER) is also really awesome.
20 points - Dragon Age: Inquisition
I'm nowhere near finishing this game, but I love it just the same. After the completely mediocre disappointment that was DA2, it's clear that the team behind this one took every complaint about DA2 seriously and worked to make a game that was an improvement on all fronts. Is it a return to classic BioWare of old? No. Is it a perfect example of what modern BioWare can do, given the time and the creative juices? Absolutely.
10 points - Geometry Wars: Dimensions
This. This is how you do an arcade game in TYOOL 2014. Tight, well-crafted controls, a bunch of different high score leaderboards to play with, and a campaign that plays with and tweaks the standard twin-stick formula in creative ways without falling into a repetitive rut. Combine that with legitimately challenging 3-star progression (I've actually had to go back and re-do levels twice, which usually never happens) and you get an incredibly well-done arcade game. More like this, please.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
