I am totally necrobumping this thread, but considering people have been playing the beta, I have a question to ask.
My computer is 4 years old. At least, the processor is, it's an Athlon 2800 XP. I've also got 1 gig of RAM, but a Radeon X1650 for a video card. It runs WoW perfectly fine at a nice resolution, but seeing those minimum system specs scared the CRAP out of me. Should I not even bother with this computer? I guess the question I'm asking is "How much more powerful does a system have to be to run WAR than WoW?" Because I definitely do not have the money to upgrade ANYTHING right now. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I saw someone mention on SA forums that audio drivers make a difference... considering I'm still using the onboard audio from my 4-year-old motherboard, is that true? There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Well, in regards to the PvP scaring you off, since you metioned WoW, let me tell you this: Being afraid of the PvP in WAR after playing WoW is like being afraid of BioShock's single player because you just played Quake 3. In WoW, PvP was an afterthought, and it wasn't even fully implemented for MONTHS. WAR is actually implementing a system from the start that encourages you to play PvP almost as much if not more than the PvE.
The lack of polish is actually surprisingly small, considering this is an open beta. Sure, I've run into some bugs here and there, but the overall look and feel of the game is quite good, and the Greenskin starting area is absolutely hilarious. The only thing scaring me away from it is simply how much my computer fights to keep the game running; I sincerely hope they've got something turned on in this beta client that'll stop fucking up my game once the retail client comes out, because playing with a choppy framerate is NOT fun. Let me tell you what is fun, though. Shaman. The bloody GENIUS "Target an enemy and a friend at the same time" means I can simultaneous poke some damage at the person a tank is fighting while healing the tank, and my healing spells will be boosted by my damaging spells and vice versa. THIS is what a Hybrid class is supposed to be, not WoW's stupid "Yeah sure you can do both of these if you have 2 separate sets of gear and are willing to respec for 50 million gold each time you want to switch." This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
1) This should be in the main thread.
2) Why in the WORLD would you buy the game knowing full well you don't meet the minimum specs? My computer bested the minimum specs but was under recommended and the game ran at MOST 20 fps if there was anyone within a mile. How could you play the game in those conditions? 3) Why in the FUCK would you buy a game knowing you don't have the computer to run it? Seriously! Minimum specs are not a recommendation. They're a MINIMUM. There's a reason they offer RECOMMENDED specs also. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
