Price and launch date announced due to a premature release of an article about the press conferences by the New York Times.
$250. November 19th. WiiSports to be packed in. Jam it back in, in the dark. |

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Acer, Skills had a good point about the release date. After the PS3 sells out on Day 1, what are thousands of flustered shoppers going to do? Buy the Wii, which by all accounts won't be nearly as hard to find and a lot less expensive. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
They previously announced that the Classic Controller wasn't going to be in there... I think. I remember reading that about a week ago.

Oh for god's sake.
Can't the media get this shit right? Most amazing jew boots |
Now that Famitsu's gone and done that I'm joining the boat of people who are waiting for the words to fucking come out of Iwata's mouth.
I have to go to bed, I'll see what happened tomorrow morning. FELIPE NO |

The NYT was not reporting on Japan. >8U
Although I'd be incredibly surprised if they were seriously coming out with the damn thing here earlier. Most amazing jew boots |
They did? I could've sworn that came out over there first. Weird.
Also, Lukage, to my knowledge it's common for the system to cost a little bit less over there because if I recall correctly games cost comparatively more. Also you have to account for that fact that for Wiis to get here they have to ship internationally, and that adds to the cost. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
2:09 a.m. EST [update 11]: Gemaga reports 3,800 yen ($32.31) cost for the remote, 1800 ($15.30) yen for the classic controller, and 1800 ($15.30) yen for the nunchuck attachment.

Hah! I was editing mine in.

I would hope that the nunchuk doesn't become as required as many of the games demoed so far seem to make it. I wouldn't mind needing to use it, but what I was sold on on the wii was the remote itself, not the nunchuk. :/
And yeah, price-wise, it's not too much of a difference. PS2 controllers currently sell for $25-$30, and third-party ones can hit $50. Speaking of which, I hope to god MadCatz doesn't make a Wii controller. ;_; How ya doing, buddy? |

Since when have the Pokemon console titles been any good? That just sounds like OMG POKEMON STADIUM 5: THE ONE WITH ALL THE POKEMONS

I don't think Metroid entirely counts as first-party, considering it's developed by Retro Studios. Can't remember if they're second or third party, but they're definitely not first-party.

My brother sucks at taking pictures, so sorry for the blurry pictures on some of these. At work today we got display boxes (empty boxes we use in place of putting the actual game out on the floor) for Wii games. To my knowledge these are the first pictures of Wii boxes to be RELEASED ON THE INTERNETS.
Warning: These are HUGE pictures. Front of Avatar: the Last Airbender Back of the box The spine... notice how the whole thing is white, as well as the box! Spine from another angle Closeup of the little indicator icons on the box... they're just as slick and minimalist as the rest of it, but that confuses me. Does that mean the game uses 1 controller, or is it 1 player? The nunchuk thing I understand, but that controller thing is kind of confusing considering all of these games theoretically would be 4 player games. All four of the ones we've gotten so far! There's nowhere I can't reach. |
This is a really great development, because that will drastically reduce the amount of time it'll take a developer to get used to the technology. This will (HOPEFULLY) allow developers to make better games earlier on in the Wii's lifespan; that was the DS's problem, basically nothing that came out for the first year was any good, then once everyone got used to the technology the games started getting better really fast.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
As a loyal and diligent employee of Toys R Us I am legally bound and obligated to dispel these rumors.
However, since I am not a loyal employee of Toys R Us I can confirm that essentially, yes, that is the case. At least, at my store. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
By request:
Unfortunately, I actually missed the time when they handed out all of the preorders. Apparently, between Elmo, PS3, and Wii, they decided with 3 cashiers they really needed to get started as early as possible, so they let all of the preorder people in about a half hour before I arrived. In our defense, about the policy about the preorders, corporate changed that on us at the last fucking second. The reason some TRUs didn't do it was because it was changed on Saturday, and I guess some either didn't want to change it so late or didn't know it changed. It really frustrated me because I'd told so many people that we were only allowing one or the other, and then corporate decided to pull the rug from under us. I had met the people as they arrived, and it was really interesting to see how totally NEUTRAL they all seemed to be. No one really came across as a huge fanboy. The day of, a lot of people came in right after we opened asking for the presells, and we had to tell them we'd already sold out. A couple of people got really irate, considering they didn't understand the whole thing about waiting in line in front of the store gets you one first. One person got REALLY pissed because we opened the store early, and I don't think I ever drilled it into her head that whether we had opened at 9:15 or 10 AM, she wouldn't have gotten one. She was just irate that the store had opened early. It's actually pretty cool that our store ended up in Kotaku. I should try to contact them, see if I can put up a defense. I was speaking idiomatically. |
I have a question. Has anyone had trouble with messages not sending to other Wiis for a long period of time? Skills sent me some messages last night and they just arrived in my message board today. Does the Wii have to be off, so WiiConnect24 can engage, or what?
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
I think in that case it's just some retailers trying to get a slight markup on the prices. The easiest thing to do is just to enter in your credit card number.
I'm really liking my Wii so far, but I'm going to have to go on a serious hunt for some component cables. My TV does NOT handle composite very well at all, and there's a distinct video lag. Which i was expecting, because that's the problem the TV seems to have, but it's something that never seems to happen with component cables. Too bad Nintendo decided not to make nearly enough of those damn things. FELIPE NO |
Yeah, I'm not saying I really care if the graphics are any better, I just know my TV handles component about 5000 times better than composite.
