Not really. Swift movement is nice to get the power, but you can accomplish the same thing using smaller arm movements that you can imitating the actual action on the screen.

But I have rather sweaty hands, and I've *never* had a problem with the controller even coming close to slipping out of my grip, and the strap is durable enough so that you have to put in WAY more power than necessary to break it.
