When I was 10, I was living in this apartment complex with my mom and stepdad. I heard screaming from the neighbors apartment and then a loud banging on our front door. I hid in the kitchen staring at the door thinking some guy was going to break through and beat the shit out of me.
Turned out his girlfriend was kicking him out of the apartment and he wanted us to call the cops for him
I'd also be breathless while listening to arguments at night between my step dad and mom, ears straining to hear who would win the insult onslaught.
