I've been refreshing the site on and off for the better part of a couple hours now. Hope to see some new information, at the least.
There's also an "interview" floating around where an independent journalist supposedly spoke with someone on the Smash Brothers Brawl Development team. Take it with a grain of salt, as this sort of thing is nothing new on the internet, but here it is: http://nintendrone.blog.com/1780019/ Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Heh, the Gooey Bomb looks to be neat. Is it from any game in particular, or perhaps is it an original item?
It's some of the neat little changes like in this screen shot: http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items...01_070524c.jpg where Mario is still facing Wario while running in a different direction that's kind of neat. I wonder if they'll have the characters doing that in regular play. On the topic of items, though, I'd love to see the original bumper from Super Smash Bros. make a return. It's absence from Melee was a travesty. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
The biggest issue I have with Samus changing like that is then without items on no one is able to play Zero Suit Samus. Even if that is the case, I image there will be some way to play Zero Suit Samus without having to go through any hoops.
Perhaps hold A when the match starts, ala Shiek/Zelda. I just can't see them not allowing Zero Suit Samus to be played "at the beginning of a match." This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Hard to say. It could be from some obscure Japanese-only release. Either way, as long as it's fun, I don't think it really matters what the items are from.
And this one certainly looks fun. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
From a strictly canonical view, Twilight Princess Zelda turning into Shiek wouldn't make an awful lot of sense.
I think the signs are definitely pointing towards Zero Suit Samus playing in a similar manner as Sheik, effectively taking her place. Who knows, though. It's definitely possible Zelda could switch to Sheik again, or even be a completely separate character this time around. The new model definitely looks great. I was hoping for the Twilight Princess design, as it is, in my opinion, the nicest looking. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]()

You'll never be able to "get rid of tiering" unless all of the characters play exactly the same. There's bound to be some characters better than others. At best, all we can really hope for is less of a gap between the tiers.
Besides, tiering comes from the meta-game that results from "high level" tournament play. As such, the tiers don't mean much to anyone who plays at a casual level. You only really need to know about them if you're into the tournament scene. That's not to say I don't agree with you, though. I'd absolutely love for all the game's characters to have the potential to win against another with only personal skill (And sure, luck if you have items or 'off-the-wall' levels) making the difference. It's just not very realistic, considering Melee. Anyway, what's good about the update aside from the obvious Bowser news, is that it's essentially confirming what we already knew-- revamped characters. It'll be great to see if some balancing can really invigorate some of the lesser used characters. Some of the 'god' characters from the original Smash Brothers, such as Ness and Kirby, really were relegated to the back seat. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Slow? Nah. His moves have a lot of lag, yes, but that's what L canceling is for. He's undoubtedly one of the worst, but he can still be a monster fighting on par with even the top tiers when used "correctly". In fact, here:
Koopacalypse. It's great to see Giga Bowser in a controllable form, but I'm even happier to see that Zelda's fair and bair are back. Easily one of her most effective moves in Melee. FELIPE NO ![]() |
I think someone is a little confused about how strong attacks work with the sideways Wii Remote. It's not that you have to tap right twice, but you hit the right directional button and hit the '2' button.
I don't know where this tap twice stuff is coming from. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
As great as it is to see Dr. Wright, the bumper is easily the best update thus far.
As my favorite item in the original Smash Brothers, I was sad to see it miss the cut in Melee. The fact that it's returning in Brawl, something I believe I mentioned I'd love to see earlier, makes me very happy. All bumper matches were a blast, and it's something I can only wait with great joy to do again. It's sad that people are going to complain about such awesome news though. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]()

Don't forget that you can see Donkey Kong in the footage they showed during the press conference.
He's during the scene where Pikachu gets a smash ball and is preparing for his Final Smash. Quite the day for Brawl updates: Release Date: December 3rd Bumper Donkey Kong How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
The actual quote is:
A lot of people are up in arms over this, and really I don't see why there's so little faith in the development team. I fully expect that there's a way to select Zero Suit Samus at the beginning of a match, ala holding A to start as Sheik. I have my doubts that so much effort would go into creating a completely "new" character that can only be played for limited times. Or not at all with items turned off. Especially with a character people have been expectant of for some time now. Of course, in the event this is the only way she's playable, that's fine too. I like the fact that they're changing things up, and it's a really neat addition in my opinion. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
Complaining about the stages at this point is a waste of time. While I personally like what we've been shown, it's still much too early to be worried about a lack of variety.
Melee had something like 29 stages, the majority of which can be described as "platforms with a scenic background". We've seen what, something like 6 or 7 stages so far? And when you consider the fact that the only stages really different, such as Big Blue and Rainbow Cruise, were unlockable to begin with, I don't think variety is going to be an issue in Brawl if you were content with Melee. But I personally am happy with the stages we've seen so far. While perhaps some of the layouts may be similar, most have something that sets them apart from one another, and potentially will make them an entirely different beast than other similar stages. Today's update, for example. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() |
Hopefully Brawl manages to achieve a better balance than Melee between all of the characters, as opposed to hitting one or two. The addition of Ike is nice. I personally see Marth returning, with Ike replacing Roy as the most likely scenerio, but that's certainly up in the air. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
Anyways, the castle stage looks to be a really great addition. I didn't see it pointed out, but someone tweaked the lighting on the last image: ![]() What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
A lot of people are taking the stance that Assist Trophies are preventing their favorites from being playable, but in reality they wouldn't have even been in the game. It's just another reason for people to piss and moan about something good. FELIPE NO ![]() |
If the inclusion of Ice Climbers ushers in anything, it should be the end of any sort of these "predictions" and discussion of such things. While those with common sense have kept out of that mess from the beginning, those who weren't so lucky as to be born with it have had one of the most accepted "rumors/predictions/lies" crushed before their very eyes.
Anything goes. It's been that way since the beginning. Ness? Sure. Lucas? Sure. Waddle Dee? Sure. You can make all the predictions you want, but trying to justify them over another is a waste of everyones time. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |
The phrases are mapped to the four d-pad buttons, which are now all Taunt buttons. You would enter your phrase before hand, and whenever you hit that particular button, that phrase appears with your taunt.
It says that quite clearly in the update. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Even watching videos from some of the "celebrated Melee players" playing Brawl made them look pretty amateurish. It'll take more than a couple of 2-minute time matches to gain proficiency with the game. Anyway, inline with today's update, I have to agree with whomever said they'd like to see revamped stages from the original game. Saffron City, or the larger Corneria/Great Fox would be awesome. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() |
Are you guys even serious? I doubt Sakurai cares what "Stafy fans" say about Kirby. This isn't kindergarten.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
