Dell, Gateway, etc are a complete fuck in your ass. Best bet is to buy from a no-bullshit company, and powernotebooks looks like one such company. Personally, I absolutely hate/don't trust ASUS. They've done a lot of random funny stuff, like video cards with no thermal paste under the heatsink. As far as specs, it's going to get expensive if you want to game. CPU needs to be at least a 2 ghz core 2 duo, though I'd suggest at least 2.4. I personally wouldn't get anything under an 8800, but an 8600GT is probably passable unless you want to play Crysis. Make sure it doesn't use "shared memory", and like said above, is DDR3. Most importantly: MAKE SURE YOUR HARD DRIVE IS AT LEAST 7200RPM. If the drives' cache is listed, you'll want one with at least 16mb. I can't stress this enough, I've seen laptops with fast hardware but loading ANYTHING is still fucking horribly slow because of the vastly inferior low performance budget hard disk. Jam it back in, in the dark.
