Isn't leaving the computer on all the time bad for the fans? They'd die a lot sooner... that, and you get more dust inside because they are always sucking air in.
Also, in some older computers, windows seem to run slower the longer you leave the computer on... so you'd have to either restart or turn it off. That's the case for my 5-6 year old desktop running Win ME, anyways.

The problem is not "the older computer", but rather the garbage software that shouldn't have earned microshit a penny.
I've left my pc on for 3 years straight (according to the os disk's smart) and it's running fine, aside from the video card being unstable when it gets hot due to poor cooling (only an issue in the summer), and the sound crackling (known creative problem).
Jam it back in, in the dark.
