I had the same thing happen to me a week ago, though I think the program that wanted to install on my comp was 'XP antivirus 2008'. However I believe it was because I accidentally clicked the 'ActiveX control was stopped' or what have you from windows.
I went through quite a bit of hell to remove it, and traces were left by spybot. I looked around until I found a program called A-squared by emsi, and that did the trick. They do have a free version, and it took care of all the annoying traces that were left. I believe the virus name was Smitfraud-C, and it was a trojan. Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() Juggle dammit |
I actually did not install the program. Simply clicking that little status bar by mistake let it in and I got a hijacked background and screen saver, plus my internet browsing always redirected me to ad sites, not letting me access pages where I could download fixes and anti-malware programs which weren't part of the whole spyware-laced ring of products.
I eventually was able to get what I needed through a whole bunch of restarting my computer in safe mode and getting lucky by finding the necessary programs on alternate download sites. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() Juggle dammit |
