I've sacrificed financial security for a good number of years by going to university to do what I love in life, music.
I'm not much of a materialistic person so that helps, but every now and again I see people I grew up with who are starting to get settled down and who are starting to be able to relax a bit when it comes to financial issues and it makes me think about what it must feel like. It usually doesn't last too long since I really love writing music to the point of giving up just about everything to reach my goal. Still... some days when I'm eating my peanut butter sandwiches, the sacrifices I had to make are pretty apparent.
Another thing which I had to sacrifice which is even more biting is the fact that I had to move a good distance away from my family and friends to study. Fortunately, my girlfriend is here with me and that does to lighten the load, and the phone or email makes it a lot easier than it would have been a century or two ago to keep in touch with everyone.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
