Reading is definetly the best sleeping aid in my book, along with alcohol.
However, I find the most important thing for me as far as being able to sleep is that I quit working on whatever it is that I have to do, so as to get my head off of my work and to let it slow down before hitting the pillow.
Of course, durnig exam periods, when I have to study AND hand in large assignements at the same time, I can hardly do this, so in those times I just bite the bullet and lack sleep for a couple of weeks.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
