I noticed something about neighborhoods here: when I lived in a smaller house, I got to know my neighbors better--I tend to get bored or suffocated in my own house because of space (or lack of it) so i bothered them in their houses.
When we got a bigger house, in a more exclusive neighborhood, people regularly keep to themselves. The only people mingling with each other in the streets are the maids and drivers.
Well, we do hear some random swearing of the Chinese guy diagonal to our house, the really noisy Koreans in the house behind ours and the try-hard drummer two houses down.
In addition, we have these avocado, chico, and mango trees in the back, and a chilli plant in the front--random people try to steal some without telling us, which kinda pisses the hell out of me. It's fun, though, catching them climbing the fence, reaching for the fruit and then one of us asking them calmly if they'd care to have some.
Some years ago in December, I was the crazy neighbor telling the party across the street to, and I quote, "fucking turn the fucking noise level down so i could fucking sleep...." I didn't stick my face out any window for a week. So, yeah, I love my neighbors. *snigger*
Jam it back in, in the dark.
