If the floor is still open to crazy speculation and rumor-milling, there's an interview with David Hayter, voice of Solid Snake, sorta-kinda implying Jigglypuff is returning (YouTube - UltraNeko & SOLID SNAKE of Metal Gear Solid 4!). Since the guy did record the "codec" messages for each character in the game, it's safe to assume he knows everyone who's going to be in it, and this might have more credence than, say, a generally uniformed NOA rep just naming names. Nothing concrete, but might be worth a look.

I actually really like the idea of a Donkey Kong level they have at the top right there. Just play DK and Mario (possibly Peach as well) on that level with probability of barrels at 100% and item appearance on highest. And, if you can make stages dynamic, have it change so the platforms are tilted at a later point in the stage.
If you could make a stage interactive, I'd be all for seeing a classic Bower's Castle type stage complete with randomly spawning axe that drops a bridge sending everyone else into the lava below. Throw in some off-screen fireballs and moving platforms and it'd be pretty chaotic!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'm all about this song. Nice that they put it in Latin, too. Kinda makes it more universal.

Actually, I did notice a clock:
I wonder if it freezes opponents in time?
Possibly the clock item from Super Mario Bros. 2 that froze all enemies? Just a guess, anyway. Would be interesting to see how that would translate into Brawl.

I'm glad they changed the beam sword. In Melee it only extended a character's attack range a little bit and all you could do was swing it. Mewtwo had a neat twist on it that made it more unique, but at least now it gives you a more tactical advantage.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I would think that Tails or Knuckles would be the second character to enter the brawl from the Sonic series. If Tails is in, Knuckles is an assist. Vise versa for Knuckles if he were the character.

Would be awesome to see another Sonic character in the Brawl though.
Tails would be the simplest solution, all Nintendo would have to do is palette-swap Sonic. The 'ol Marth/Roy scenario. But it kinda looks like they're steering clear of swaps this time, since no two characters revealed have the same move sets yet.

But third party assists *do* open the door to lots more possibilities. Especially since Konami and Sega are apparently on-board for this.

Okay, I'll let you run with the idea that Ness was supposed to be Lucas (still haven't seen or heard of any proof of this yet..)
From Nintendo Japan's Smash Bros. DX site: (http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n01/n64/software/nus_p_nalj/smash/flash/0717/index.html}

Babelfish'd version:
Quote:
KOKORO CHIKARA with the boy, Ness emergence.

Actually, initially, MOTHER3 character change but, for many reasons roundabout with the original sleeve to収MARIMASHITA.

New knockdown WAZA "PK flash" is a seemingly YOWAYOWASHII missile.
Moreover, FUTSUU to fly only in the opponent SURINUKE it features.

However, PSI button to continue to send a powerful and increasingly huge and the button離SHITA moment of great release!
Around巻KI込MIMASU enemy.
Hopefully, a large stinger to give it.
So, basically, Ness was scheduled to be replaced for Melee, but development was either too far ahead or they were too far behind schedule to change it. One could argue that there was *another* Mother 3 character planned (Flint, Claus, etc.) but Lucas is the most common interpretation.

I was speaking idiomatically.

At least all of Link's taunts are better than his old one, and as long as Mario can still grow-taunt with a super mushroom I'll be happy.

We have a few alternate colors in that pic, too. Link has his blue tunic and Samus is sportin' her purple and yellow gear from Melee.

Stickers seem to be the last refuge of characters in this game. If they aren't playable, and not notable enough for an assist trophy, they can at least be in the game as a sticker.

...That purple and yellow gear is her fucking gravity suit.

God, I wish people would actually play even games as recent as Metroid Prime 1. Hell, go download Metroid 3. One of the best games ever. =\
Oh, I'm aware of her Gravity Suit, I just didn't make the connection. Super Metroid was the last Metroid game I played through fully (had a little experience with Zero Mission and Fusion). Never played the Prime series.

There it is! Screenshot from my ZSNES save.

Also, according to EGM, Super Metroid *is* the best game ever made. Your fervent defense of the series is understandable.

That's a nice final smash; if you use it on smaller stages it looks like its effects would be genuinely unavoidable. Even if it doesn't cause huge damage it at least puts every other character at a disadvantage.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I'm glad you caught that.

Smart Bomb sounds awesome. Did they already confirm bob-omb was coming back, though?

Yep, it's back. So we have Bob, Smart Bomb *and* the Gooey Bomb this time around. All we need now is the Proximity Mine.

I guess the soccer ball could be from Mario Strikers. Or Animal Crossing. Or Nintendogs. Or, you know, just a soccer ball.

Oh no Pikachu lost his pimp hat.

We only see three costumes in this shot, so the other hats could still actually be there (Mario alone has at least four alternate costumes). Looks like he gained Pichu's goggles and Ruby's bandanna, though.

Also, the black dress Zelda looks really cool.

^ I could see how that would work. They have been getting pretty specific with the game features lately. An explanation on how hidden characters work might be coming for sure.

Also, since we didn't get an update today, I'm going to do one of my own! 'Cause I know how much everyone looks forward to these things. There were a few Pokemon revealed a while back that we never saw on the main Smash page:

Kyogre and Torchic were seen in a game-play video during Nintendo's press conference event on October 10th. Kyogre flies in and blasts everyone with water, while Torchic just stands there and looks cute until it spontaneously combusts with all the fire energy the tiny bird can muster. Snorlax was apparently also sighted.

Here's Entei from an snapshot someone took from E for All earlier this month. His attack seems almost identical to the one he used in Melee. Resetti, true to form, shows no concern whatsoever about the giant fire dog about to blow the arena to bits.

Looks like they got a bit more creative with the objectives this time. I like the Yoshi one; I'd always try and do that kind of thing when I play against my friends: egg-up everyone on the screen and then block to go into my egg animation too.

I agree, I'd rather keep all the secret characters, well, a secret. At least until the game is released.

The only thing I am disappointed about is the exclusion of Jigglypuff (my main character).
Jigglypuff was *sorta-kinda* hinted at by David Hayter, Snake's voice actor in a MGS4 interview. When asked "what Smash Brothers Brawl character would [he] like to beat up most", he pauses before saying "...probably Jigglypuff". Assuming Hayter recorded the codec speeches for every character in the game, he may in fact know everyone involved. Could just be naming names, but it's something.

But wait! 'cause there's even more characters that were hinted at by sources other than Dojo:

Krystal
Krystal's voice actress, Alisia Glidewell, had Super Smash Bros. Brawl listed on her official website resume for several days before taking it down. The source now simply says "Nintendo". She also replied to several e-mails asking her about it saying she couldn't go into detail on what it meant, but it's safe to assume was at least considered for voice work for the game. Krystal is also mentioned as one of Glidwell's characters (she also does Zero Suit Samus and Knuckle Joe) on the game's IMDB entry.

Sheik and Ganondorf
In a Phantom Hourglass interview with Game Informer back in August, Eiji Aonuma, art director for the Zelda series, stated that he was asked by Sakurai to submit drawings of Sheik and Ganon for development in Brawl. Not only that, but he has been "working closely" with Sakurai to make sure the characters would fit into the brawl environment.

Quote:
Aonuma: I’ve been working with Sakurai for a very long time with this new Smash Bros., because the Wii came out and when discussion for a new Smash Bros. took place nobody could think of anyone other than Sakurai working on it. He was kind of the default, and I was very happy to hear that he would be working on it. Actually, my designers did work on the designs for Sheik and Link and Ganondorf. So they submitted the initial designs, and so it would fit in the Smash Bros. Brawl environment, they’ve had to tweak some of the designs. But Sakurai has brought those altered designs to NCL. We’re working very closely with the team of Smash Bros. Brawl to make sure the characters look their best.
Luigi
An interview with a Nintendo spokesman back at E for All reveals several characters already mentioned on the website, but Luigi is also passively tossed into the list. Could this slip of the tongue actually confirm Luigi, or is Nintendo once again just throwing out names?

What do you think? Is the rumor mill to be trusted this time, or is it all just wishful thinking?

How ya doing, buddy?

The Temple was always fun, glad they decided to bring that back. I can't tell if the graphics have been updated for it or not, but a floating castle is still going to look pretty cool no matter how you slice it. More large levels overall would be nice, too.

Here's hoping for more Melee or super blocky and pixelated N64 levels.

Bonsly kinda reminds me of a heavier Mr. Saturn. Diddy's doing a bit of straining there, I wonder if you slow down when you carry it?

I don't know if it'll be *this* week exactly, but I'm hoping for a big reveal sometime, too. I just can't help myself! If the info is floating around out there in Development Land, somebody's gotta cave and give us the goods.

MICHAEL FOREVER
Moonwalker Michael would be broken; I can see it right now. Sparkly kicks, hat throws, and the ever-dreaded Sync-dance Final Smash, all with "ow!"'s and "oh!"'s thrown in on every attack. His stage theme would be a MIDI-fied Smooth Criminal with Bubbles as an assist trophy.

Quote:
Also, did anyone notice this? The Musicians list updated with Jun Senoue being added after yesterday's Angel Island Zone arrangement.
Ah, so we *don't* have all the musician info right off. They might have a few more musicians hiding away somewhere to avoid spoiling more characters.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Hold on here. I think in the second one there may just be a confirmation of a BRAND NEW ITEM!!! If you look to the left of the Lylat Cruiser Scene in the second commercial. On the second time, it appears to be a Chaos Emerald. AND I'm thinking that this has a Play with Super Sonic. Or it could be a brand new Item totally (It's very apparent 5 seconds in). With the Dragoon in play, I wouldn't be surprised to see the chaos Emeralds being brought into play.
The Chaos Emeralds would rock if everyone could use them. SuperSnake with spikey Goku hair flying around shooting RPGs out of his fingers. Tell me that wouldn't be awesome. Bonus points for the Sonic invincibility theme playing while it all happens.

Let's hope we get something cool for the update. We still gotta last two weeks from this Thursdays, which will go down in history as Needlessly Huge Spoiler Day 2008.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
