"The Chosen", by Chaim Potok, as well as his "My Name is Asher Lev" book are both fabulous. It deals more with the struggles between identity as an Orthodox Jew, and the rest of American society, but I think you can tailor it to deal with guilt, and definitely fair vs. unfair.
"The Scarlet Letter" is another one...but they might've read that already in high school...
Possibly "The Fountainhead" or "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand. Those deal with another view of what is fair and what is right.
"The Bluest Eye" is another one, too, by Toni Morrison. I have others, but I can't think of them right now...
