Hmm, I've only recently noticed this thread exists . . . ah well.
I've looked through the thread and noticed there wasn't much about J-Pop from before 1990. Coincidentally, I've only started finding about older J-Pop from random YouTube browsing. And that was about a month ago. Now, I've been perusing WinMx for this sort of music and got quite more than I expected. Not entire albums, but an interesting spread of artists and songs from the late 1960s to the late 1980s. For those who have ventured into my journal, you would have read up occasionally on my discovery of older J-Pop, and I've brought along a few people who have taken a liking to it, it seems. I don't think I'm a good enough authority yet on pre-1990 J-Pop, and I wonder if any of you are better at giving a crash course on that. In the meantime, I'll announce to you that I have begun organizing what I've downloaded and compiled the J-Pop into CD-sized volumes. While not exactly CD rips or anything, it's better than having not known them, I would think. Those interested can download the first two volumes from the links in my journal. The first two volumes consist of as much of the songs I can get that I can discern from the three YouTube clips that started my interest in older J-Pop. I might as well present them to y'all to show how it all began for me. The following are compilation clips from some sort of Japanese music program that aired at the time: (1975 - 1979)
(1980 - 1983) - Japanese people like to cry too much
(1972 - 1987)
How ya doing, buddy? |

Classic J-Pop Sampler - Unofficial and Unauthorized GFF Edition - Volume 7
I guess this is as good a place as any to put this in for now. As some may already know, I've taken an interest into Japanese popular music from the 1960s to the 1980s, and have been collecting them and exploring different genres and artists via P2P methods. I've also been repackaging some of what I've got into CD-sized volumes for GFF because I didn't want to have it all to myself.
I will make a more detailed entry of this in my journal, but I'll put it here first for sake of simplicity. Classic J-Pop Sampler - Unofficial and Unauthorized GFF Edition - Volume 7 Track List:
The spread of this volume is 26 years, the biggest yet, from 1966 to 1993, spanning from the height of Group Sounds to the beginnings of the current J-Pop sound. If anyone is interested in the previous six volumes, please let me know and I'll upload them. I suppose unless someone else with more knowhow comes along, I'll be glad to discuss and introduce classic J-Pop, Group Sounds, Enka, and early idols to y'all. Hope you enjoy this volume! There's nowhere I can't reach. |
For those following and interested in J-Pop from the late 1960s to just after 1989, the eighth volume of randomly chosen songs is uploaded.
You can download it here track list:
Any feedback on this and other volumes is welcome, whether you are curious about other works from certain singers or the era in general. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
