Long time no see, Song of the Week. Here's a long-overdue nomination:
Artist(s): Chris Hulsbeck Album/Game Title: R-Type (Commodore 64 Game Rip) Track Title: Title Year: 1988 Source(s): SID.OTH4.COM - The SID 6581/8580 Recordings Archive, which seems to be down, so here's the song itself: R Type C64 Title - Putfile.com Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Eye of Aeon - Forgot I was listening to it after two or so minutes. I could actually see it growing on me in that kind of repetitive, somewhat fun kind of way (thinking Speed Freaks - City).
Purple Twilight - Pretty funky. The audio quality is atrocious, but I try not to vote on that; if anything, the fact that the melody stands out as well as it does in spite of the poor quality only gives it more points in my eyes. Amon - The Prejudiced - YESSSS Eastern influenced track. Nice blend of symphonic elements with Asian themes; really good atmosphere as well. It kinda meanders as it goes along, though. Fighting Tournament - YESSSS NES Chiptune. This one... hrm. It's kind of unremarkable, and I get the feeling I've heard loads of NES songs that do the same thing, only better. I don't think I'd like this one if it weren't a Chiptune. Cemetery Level - Definitely not something I would listen to on a regular basis, though I can definitely appreciate it - it's got a nice blend of Halloween-esque cheese and goofy sound effects. A nice counterpoint to the serious Death Smiles. Eden Suite - I'm pretty bored by the first part of this song. The second part is a little better ("more intimate," as stated before, is a really apt description), but I just... don't really like it all that much. Tough to say why - I think it's because it lacks a clear-cut melody, which is what I really look for in most songs. Wandering Thoughts - Speaking of clear-cut melody, this song has it in spades. Very catchy and simple, though it ends really abruptly. Probably my favorite of the week, though I wouldn't give it full points. DA Boss 1 Modern - What a title. This is like the serious counterpart to Cemetery Level, and I like it a little bit more - it's got a nice beat and decent atmosphere. Probably second-best this week. POINT SPREAD: 2 points - Wandering Thoughts 2 points - DA Boss Modern 1 1 point - Purple Twilight 1 point - Amon - The Prejudiced There's nowhere I can't reach. |
