What I'd like to know is, will this game finally, FINALLY have multiple audio tracks, so I don't have to listen to the english voicetrack?
While it might not be bad per se for a videogame it absolutely PALES in comparison to the japanese one... Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
How ya doing, buddy? ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
Hmm... But if the PAL release doesn't have the Japanese voice track on it, I'll probably go for an import at a later date. Just for being a total MGS fanboi. ![]() This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
And, yes, I wouldn't have recognized this with a jap VA, but I doubt it would've bothered me there as much as it did with the English VA. :/ I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
If you don't want that, then why exactly are you interested in MGS?

If so, that's bad news. ![]() What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
Fingers crossed that games featuring antropomorphic antagonists aren't outlawed in Germany when it comes out... >_>
Am I the only one finding the ball-buster-knockout move a bit... I dunno... Strange? Seems this certain kind of slightly immature humour is seeping through more and more japanese media lately... (Or I'm just getting older... You never know...) FELIPE NO ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |

What the hell is THIS now...? Half a year of exclusivity? Or is this store just misinformed? What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
This Groszny Grad is a part of Metal Gear Online, not of Guns of the Patriots.
At least the screen above is. Don't know wether that actually translates to "Guns of the Patriots has a part in Groszny Grad". As no other real Metal Gear has yet revisited a locale of one of its predecessors, I think it somewhat unlikely. Unless it's some "back to the source where it all began" thing. But even then they should probably rather go to Granin's buro... Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
Wait what... Q4 of March? What does that mean? Fourth quarter of march? O_ô

Boy do those girls' voiceovers sound silly. Like cheap anime dub. *sigh*
http://www.konami.jp/gs/kojima_pro/m...gc2007_jpn.asx I really prefer the jap version now. If it's got english subtitles I just might order it, should there not be a japanese audio option with the PAL release. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |

I'm a bit disappointed that even with Bluray games are behind movies in terms of language options. I really think that should change, especially with japanese games, even if it's just for the tiny margin of people who actually want this. And then I'm even more disappointed that the Japanese version doesn't include English subtitles. Seriously. Especially since PS3 is region free this is pretty much the finger given to import fans - unless they just expect import fans to speak japanese. Ah well. This IS an issue to me, but only a minor one. I can live perfectly well with the US cast. MGS always had top notch VO. Now, if they just released the MGS PS3 bundle over here in Europe.... Which they apparently won't do... Not even a bundle with Dualshock 3 is planned... -_- THAT is actually a much bigger issue than the voicecast. Ah well... I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
Well, due to the game being a japanese piece of entertainment, I don't find japanese VO distracting at all.
That, and Snake having the same voice as Batou of Ghost in the Shell fame. I just like him / his less "urr action hero gruff" Snake better than Hayter's. From what I've seen so far, there is some VO stuff in MGS4 that sounded better to me in Japanese though, and that is the Beauty and the Beast unit. But I guess they just sound as off to someone actually understanding what they say as the English VO of them sounds to me... But - this REALLY is splitting hairs. MGS has always been loads and loads of fun for me. And I'll always keep the HORRIBLE (whorible) German version VO of MGS1 on PC in mind, which serves as my all time example of how a VO should NOT NO NAY NEVER sound like - and up till now is my prime reason to always avoid fully localized games here. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
29 hours not including cutscenes? Woah. Also not including codec conversations?
If so, then that is one long dong of an MGS. Or does that impression fool me...? FELIPE NO ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
The last video game trailer I actually REMEMBER in theaters was for Command & Conquer - Red Alert. o_Ô
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
I've stopped watching trailers and reading too much of news about the game. I knew pretty much every cool cutscene Snake Eater had before I had touched the game. I've already seen too much of Guns' cutscenes for my taste. I mean... I'm an self-admitted MGS fanboy. So why even bother spoiling the game for me? Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
Given that after The Boss was defeated in MGS3, the game took more than an hour after that until the credits rolled, it's not THAT unlikely for an MGS game to have that long cutscenes.
And yes, it wasn't really a more then one hour cutscene, more like some cutscenes, codec conversations, a little interaction, and then more cutscenes and the credits. It's something VERY few games do these days. At least, few games I know. Most just have a quick ending movie, and that's it. MGS is kinda old fashioned in that way. Which actually is a good thing. I like games that ARE the reward in themselves, but I also like a reward in form of a cutscene. Combine both for greatness. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
Gaming has always been a pretty expensive hobby if you wanted to have a piece of current hardware. PC gaming being even worse in that specific department.
It all depends. You could of course buy a new game for 60 bucks, or go to 3 concerts, buy a number of DVDs, go to the movies, invest that sum in car parts, or whatever... Hobbies tend to cost money. And there's always bound to be someone with MORE money than me to spend on any given hobby, so there isn't really a good reason to go to whineland 'cause of that. That promo soundtrack sure got my personal hype-meter up. As I didn't follow the latest reports too closely, what's up with the different camera modes, they still there? At one point they demonstrated something like "GoW style cam, FPS cam, Subsistance style cam" to select from. Do we know if that's still there? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
I think the track's name "Love Theme" is something of an understatement. Don't know wether that's deliberatly done or not, but "Love Theme" sounds like "oh yeah, well, the obligatory love theme, something generic with strings". Couldn't be more misleading.

Eurogamer gives it a 8/10. Cue fanboy rage. This just further deepens my disagreement with most of EGs scores of late.
And no I haven't read the review. Way too spoilery. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
True. As I said, it's not entirely rational, fanboyism that is.
For some reason I'd expect this game to score higher. But thinking about it (and checking the older scores) EG always scored the MGSs a little lower than others, Snake Eater (not Subsistence) also "just" scoring an 8. It's this fanboy thing. I WANT the game to be good. And not just good, but mind blastingly amazing. So any hint that it won't be is a bit of a letdown and causes some not entirely thought through reactions. Especially since I don't exactly care about any kind of review. I'll buy this game anyway. And chances are, I'll like it a lot. But this is just part of a bigger issue, basically that of gaming reviews and the scoring system in general. I think a system that's basically just a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" would be something I favor. No more "yeah, but this racing game is .563% better than this shooter!" But that's pretty much off topic now. Till now EGs review is the lowest score it's got so far. Other reviews are a lot more positive. But having read (other) reviews by people like tim rogers from pushactionbutton, this is probably not going to be the lowest score the game will get. I mean, MGS4 seems - from what I can gather - to be following an very old fashioned formula, and adding several layers of glitz (and hopefully some improved controls) onto that. Personally, I'm not one of the people shunning "old fashoined" games that have a strict seperation between interactivity and narrative, or in general games that don't reinvent themselves with each iteration (and, which game actually DOES that anyway? Since IV that's not even something that can be said about Quake. ) But looking at a lot of criticism GTA IV got for example was mostly about that. Why play IV, it's III all over again with shiny graphics. Which is both true and false, but game reviews tend to always be highly subjective. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
I dunno if GFF has in fact changed that much. Didn't spend much time in the video game boards back then.
Thread "hiding"... Wtf...? Reviews: The "japnanese weeaboo" (srsly, GFFchan?) pretty much made my point. The snide side remarks of the other prove the ridiculousness of whining or even the attempt at discussing review scores. Thanks a lot. Still, I'm pretty much with the points Dennis Dyack makes here. But that's something worthy of its own thread... FELIPE NO ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
Untagged spoilers in gaming forum titles are probably the best in that regard.
Interesting thing that the disc pictured above is either an european or actually a German disc. So here's to hoping I might get it early too. *_* What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
Everybody knows Germany is somewhere between Iran and Persia. Don't lie! *_*
(Actually I stressed the german-ness of the disc due to my vague hope of getting my copy early as well, being German and all... ) Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() These are the Books of Harrow They are our doom and our salvation Learn from them, or we will all perish |
