well it's been 2 years that I have this game and i'm still just mnk63 XD well I have a whm42 brd46 war37 blm 30 and some other XD and i'm a taru, yes a taru mnk XD cant wait to do asuran fist backflip XD

well to talk about the new expansion, i'm so interrested in the puppetmaster by the look, but I woner what will be is main purpose in a party.

and to talk about Odin, I don,t think there will ever be any Odin avatar, I think he will be more like Bahamut is to Chain of Promathia, but he surely look sweet ^^

not every job take 1 month to lv 75, my friend was in a static every day and he got his bard from lv 1-75 in 2 week. It's all depend of how and with who you play. A good static will get you lv fast, otherwise you'll spend a lot of time seeking, which is the main problem in FFXI...


oh and btw i'm not sur blue mage will be good with whm sub... it's a DD job that is melee (well i think so) most of that ability of monster are somewhat close range, so i'm not sur about whm in sub, Corsair it already been said that i's a buffer that use some "luck" so yes maybe /whm or /rdm will be good. There's just puppetmaster that we still don't know how it will play his part in a party :\

I'm a little excited about this whole Job Adjustments ^^ I can't wait to see what they will add to the monk, I hope it will add a little more thing to do in battle then just wait for sc XD

oh and PLD that get tp while blocking attack!? finaly! it's been almost a year that everyone thought that it would be great!

and I hope that some of the new magic they will add to blm and rdm will be good and specific for the job, (like new rdm magic only)

if you cancel your content ID (not your account, just the content. This is what you pay to be able to create a character and play) you have now one year before all your character data is erase (and lost forever)

the monthly fee is 12,95$ for the first character, and any additional character will cost 1$. So if you have 3 character, it will cost you 12,95$ + 2$ = 14,95$.

the next expension will be out April 18 and will cost 29.99$ (49.99$ for the xbox360 version but this is not just the expansion, it contain FFXI and all 3 expansion)

lol the old (really really old) playonline site is not the playonline account you will need >.> it's totally new, it for the Playonline Viewer (that you will get with the game) you need a playonline account (wich is free but you need a registration code to activate it, no worries you will all have that witht the game)

the playonline viewer is a program that you have to pass by to lauch the game...

you "can't" choose your server in FFXI you just end up on one...the only difference between them, is the number of player (some have more than the others) and the price of item at the auction house (some server have sky high price and other are normal)

but if you already have some friend on a specific server, you can sk them to buy a world pass. They will give you a code and when you'll create your character, there will be a palce to input this code so you can go on that specific server ^^

or if you want to be lucky you can create a character, check on which server you end up, and delete/re-create until you're on the server you want >.> but this is totally random so it can take forever and by doing that there are some server that you will never end up on it mainly because there's a lot of player in it and SE want to balance the server so they block the acces. the only way to end up on those server is by the world pass.

lol during the inflation I was farming tree cutting like crazy, hey one stack of cutting was 500k! but now it's 100k it take a little more time XD

I was last year a 56k user and I was amaze at how well FFXI play on a 56k. You almost never get lag, only maybe in jeuno but it's normal >.> and the zoning is a little more longer but really not that much. But yeah the big problem was the update >.> just the first one (you know when you just install the game and you have to update it) at that time without even CoP (it wasn,t realease the first time I played FFXI) it took me 27h to download the update and this is non-stop because you can't resume your download >.> so yeah my phone was "busy" for a whole day >.< and I couldn't do anything with my comp because at that time I didn't have a computer strong enough to be able to play another game ith the POL in background XD so yeah update are hell on 56k but IG it's perfect.(god i'm glad to be on cable now XD)

for the expension, yes I have it and I love he new area ^^ the music is so good! we tried to do some job quest, but we died on the way because of 2 imp >.< and I was with a monk lv75 full merit with his af² and a blm 75 too, so those area are really dangerous XD well it was late, so we called it a day, I may tried again today ^^

check the mob, by ether targeting it and clicking on check or by targeting the mob and ctrl+c at low lv(1-12) you can kill all the mob that said:

too weak:don't give exp but very easy to kill
easy prey: give little xp but are easy to kill
decent challenge:give better xp(for this lv) still somewhat easy (depend of the mob)
event match: the mob is the same lv as you, now it can become tricky because certain job can kill them very easily and other will get owned
Tough: give good xp but will be hard to kill, some job can kill them others don't. at lv 1-5 you can probably kill a tough without to much trouble but after that they get harder.
very tough:you can't easily solo that, some job combination can do it but at lower lv don't touch them.
incredible tough: those are only killed in a party,so in solo don't touch them

at low lv aim mainly for the easy prey and decent chalenge, you'll get enough xp and you can kill them faster so you get xp faster too.

those little information are really only good for low lv because after lv 15+ even an easy prey can rip you apart >.>

well the spell raise is lv 25 so if you don't have a whm lv25 passing by don't expect a raise XD and lv 1-4 you dont lose xp and even after tht at low lv you do one kill and you just gain what you had lost

there is another keboard key setup wich is pretty much like WoW (or any other mmorpg) that use the wasd key, you have to swicth it in the config menu in game...

For various reasons, I can't use a credit card for this, so I thought of just buying another set along with the registration codes to extend my subscription. It would be nice to know how the registration process works exactly and wether player characters are bound to registration codes or not.

ok first you MUST have a credit card or a game time card to be able to get your free 30days... they will just not charge you for one month and if you don't want to continue playing just cancel your content ID and you will not be bill but you still need a credit for the registration process

2- you "can't" choose your server, when you create your character you end up on a server, they do this to prevent a server to have too much people on it, so those server (the one that have a lot of people on it) you have a very little chance to end up on it. The only way to "choose" your server is if you have a friend that is on a specific sever and he buy you a World Pass that you will imput on your character creation process and you will be able to got on that specific server.

3- no you can't because the registration code register to you playonline ID, so only one registration code is authorized, you can sill do this by creating a new playonline account but you will have to start a new character from 0 ...

4- just install all, this can even save you some time for the big update and some area in the game can only be acess with some expension.

finaly you can't play this game if you don't have a credit card OR a game time card BUT final fantasy XI time card doesn't exist anymore or are really hard to find, so I guess before opening the box I suggess you to go exchange it, this game will be totally useless because even withou a credit card you can't even get the free 30days and like it said, it's just a 30days free, not really a trial...

so the only choice for are:

-get a crdit card and pay the 12.95$ to play this game(there's an additional fee of 1$ for every additional character you make. ex: you have 1character: it's only 12.95$, you have 2: it's 13.95$, you have 4: it's 16.95$ etc...)

-return the game and forget most MMORPG >.>

it's big, but i can,t really say a number, I have all the expension and my playonline folder go over 7.5gb and there's probably 5-6gb that come from the disk so in all probably at least a gb (this is just my guess I may be totally off with those number XD maybe someone else have the exact number)

just a little exemple, I'm on cable and the big update take like 2h, so I'm pretty sure it's at least 1gb if it's not 2gb with all the expension...

puppetmaster is the new lol job they are not very good... and in party they are even worse...

there's not really too many of these it's just that whm are now more useful at low and mid lv. with the new area of the expansion Aht Urgan, rdm are more use as healer because they are more useful with refresh and convert and all debuff magic. Especially for merit party where you want to kill as fast as possible without any downtime (that's where refresh and convert come into play)

they are still needed though it most endgame event.

as for rdm like at said there are a bunch of them but they are always in big demand. and believe me as soon as you get refresh, you'll be sometime submerge with /tell asking you to party...

and yes Elvaan tends to miss a lot at low lv since I think they have the worse dex (it's even worse if you do job like sam or drk in elvaan XD) but there's a lot of equipment to correct that, in the end you don't really notice it anymore.

yes you can play with a gamepad but I always find the keyboard better for the macro(it simple to hit ctrl+5 then to scroll to your macro 5 or in the game list)

and those weren't gnome but Tarutaru, it's one of the 5 races you can choose.

and 4500 on the benchmark is enough, you will probably run the game at max without any problem (the games still lag in some city no matter what though)

the only thing you can really compare FFXI with wow is just that they are MMORPG everything else is different, especially the gameplay and the way they are meant to be played.

WoW is mostly a solo play till you it an high lv and start doing some end game things (please feel free to correct me I never got past lv 30 in WoW)

and FFXI is meant to be played in team and that as soon as lv 15 (maybe even lv 10). This is exactly why I prefer FFXI to most of the MMORPG but this is also why some people don't like it. Beside doing a beastman you will be able to progress in this game in solo.

but yes I have to say the seeking time is the problem of this game, but I never really liked to play solo in a MMORPG and that's why WoW bore me. The story of FFXI is the other big thing that I prefer FFXI, I never seen another mmorpg that manage to introduce properly a story and not a bad one too!

anyway everyone has they preference, both game are good but for very different reasons.

beastman charm other monster so that it fight for him or it use some jug, those are item that summon a monster for a limited time(but I heard that those pet are not that good)

I never played beastman so I can't say much more...

and what do you mean by xpacs? the only expansion you're missing is Treasure of Aht Urhgan and you will probably don't need it till lv 55-60 and even more.

the content IDs work for 1 character. So if you want a second character you need to buy another content ID. The first content ID will cost you 12.95$ and any additional content id will cost you 1$ each (and yes this is per month)

so if you have 3 characters you should be charge 14.95$ a month.

and yes sure if you want to do those jobs you can go there at lv 30 but you can't really do much there at that lv since all the surrounding area are high level.

all starting job are good, oh wait except thief, well they are good later on but really don't start your first job in this game as a thief.

but like I said to most newcomer to FFXI if you bought this game to solo, you should already return it and go play another MMORPG...

I still don't know why SE did create bst in the first place. Sure it could be fun when you can,t get any party or just for fun but you are like missing the whole game and really all mission are team base and I don't see often a bst in them XD

what I would suggest is not making bst your only job, it's more a job that you level up beside your main one...

the castle I suppose you're in Sand'oria. you have to talk to the guard close to the door to get out of the castle.

And if you are lagging in Sand'oria than it will just get worst in Jeuno and even more in Aht Urhgan Whitgate XD

but yeah the city if where it's more laggy, mainly because it's there that there's more people, but you shouldn't have any problem outside.

oh and i suggest to turn down the shadow to normal, because the High feature will just make you lag a lot, even on an high end computer. FFXI was a ps2 game first :\ some the optimization on PC is not that great.
