Without a doubt, the best week of updates so far (sans the week with Wi-Fi play being confirmed, cause that was just too awesome). Single-player alone looks like it'll keep everyone occupied for weeks.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

*Thinks how awesome it would be to have Dr. Kawashima as an assist trophy in Brawl*

I'm pretty sure he's going to show up in some form or another. Brain Age is too popular of a franchise now for Nintendo to just ignore for Brawl. If Resetti can make it in as an assist trophy (as awesome as he is), so can Dr. Kawashima. I guess Nintendogs, too, since that was the first break-out Nintendo DS game.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

This is actually an incredible update. The Donkey Kong track was arranged by Hirokazu "Hip" Tanaka himself. He hasn't worked on a single track in over a decade for Nintendo, and is currently the president of Creatures Inc. (formerly, Ape, Inc. a company jointly owned by Nintendo and HAL Labs). Simply amazing that he's come back to do this track for Brawl.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

He did some musical work on Pokemon Channel, actually.
Really? The GameCube game? That's pretty neat.

They need to bring back Saffron City from the original. Probably my favorite stage in the series.

This is a pretty neat update, though. I'm guessing just a simple re-skinning was all that went into this. I'm sure there'll be many more "classic" stages to help bolster Brawl's overall stage count.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I'd really like to see Nintendo's more obscure, and, generally, unheard of franchises be represented in Brawl in some capacity. Probably, moreso than third party characters. Sonic and Snake are cool, but, meh. I'm sure there's another one or two that we haven't heard of yet, too.

Famicom Tantei Club, Kaeru no Tame ni Kane Wa Naru, Marvelous: Another Treasure Island, Sennen Kazoku, etc.

And it seems Lyn is not loved enough to make it as a complete character. Smash needs more girls, but Fire Emblem is the game with most candidates, and since it's not as famous as a Zelda or Mario game, the chances for them are reduced. I will also miss Roy (and Marth).
I agree, Smash Bros. need some more females to fill out the character roster. However, Nintendo has hardly made an effort to create identifiable females -- with only a few exceptions: Peach, Zelda, Samus and Daisy. There are other females in the world of Nintendo out there, Paula from EarthBound, the purple-haired bat-girl from Daigasso! Band Brothers, Marin (or, Malon) from Legend of Zelda, etc. I think Nintendo has shied away from this since games starring females tend to not do as well at retail.

I really hope that there's a seperate option to turn off Pity Final Smashes or at least set an outrageous point limit for them to activate without turning off the Smash Balls. If a player sucks, they suck. Don't give them something to turn the battle around that required zero skill on their part.
Pity Final Smashes can be likened to Mario Kart, I think. In Mario Kart, the players in last will receive all the uber (a.k.a. bullshit) items like the blue shell and the lightning bolt on a regular basis, merely because these items become pity items of sorts for the players that lack skill.

That looks like the same start screen they have from the "demos" at E4All
Correct, it's the same character select screen from the E for All demo:

While, yes, it's true that CoroCoro Magazine will be releasing their strategy guide with their January issue on Dec. 15th, it's not known what the contents will be within it. Meaning that, it could be how to unlock all of the hidden characters, or it could just be general information regarding Subspace Emissary and the like. We won't know until next week.

Also, I'm pretty sure QJ isn't the original source for that information (I can't recall what was, actually, but it popped up about a month ago). But, from what I do remember, there was absolutely no mention regarding a "full roster reveal," as it's simply just a strategy guide.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I really doubt that it'll be pushed back any farther than it already has been. Nintendo can't feasibly delay it any more, considering their other huge multiplayer game, Mario Kart Wii, will be tentatively releasing right around the same time as Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I suspect Mario Kart Wii's going to be delayed until sometime in the summer of 2008, though.

You're a 5-Star idiot. The full roster will not be revealed before the game is release, and if it is it will definately be by any other source than the website.
Such hostility. Check back a few pages for discussion regarding this exact topic, and why the full roster may be unveiled prior to the game's release in Japan.

In all fairness, these updates weren't originally intended to last as long as they are right now what with the large delay and all.
Quoted for posterity.

This update rocks. Particularly, due to the Sound Test screen showing that the song "The Roost" from Animal Crossing: Wild World will be featured in the game, and that Kazumi Totaka served as the arrangement supervisor for it. I hope it's a remix, though, but I wouldn't mind a direct rip of the song from Wild World.

Original Mother soundtrack > the others. :P

Anyone else disappointed with the Metroid stages so far? And, of all the beautiful locales that Retro Studios created with the Prime series, why the Frigate Orpheon? Why not Chozo Ruins? Or, Phendrana Drifts, Sanctuary Fortress, Sky Town...

It'd be awesome if Nintendo expanded the Subspace Emissary adventure mode into an entire game. Though, knowing Sakurai, this likely is an entire game within Brawl.

Well, Miyamoto made a comment earlier this year saying that they weren't happy with the results of outsourcing Star Fox and F-Zero (it wasn't clarified if that was due to low sales or the actual quality of the product, though). I hope Nintendo starts to re-focus on doing some of their typically outsourced IPs into in-house productions this gen.

Edit: Just want to point out that the trailer is likely the trailer Nintendo will have on-hand at this weekend's Jump Festa expo in Tokyo, Japan. Smash Bros. Brawl is going to be playable there, and it's the first time the Japanese public will have the opportunity to try out the game.

While I don't know if he'll be in the game, Inafune sounds like he's teasing the thought. Plus, why would he reveal if Mega Man was in Brawl? He'd definitely be under an NDA for something like that.

So Dr. Mario might be an alternate costume for Mario...

This is pretty damn cool. =D
SMASHING YOUR HOPES... sorta:

I don't know if the "six variations" they allege each character has includes their main outfit, though. So, it's possible the "sixth" alternate clothing piece could be Dr. Mario.

I'd say just about equal to the odds we'll be seeing something new. :P

It'll be interesting to see how long/if Sakurai continues doing updates past the Japanese release (will he continue until the European one? Doubt it, heh). In any case, after the Japanese release, updates will be fairly frivolous.

Well, one of the stickers looks very similar to Silver the hedgehog -- or, whatever the hell it is -- in a screenshot that was posted on the Dojo website (bottom right)

(This update: Smash Bros. DOJO!!)

So, I wouldn't be surprised if Knuckles makes an appearance in some fashion.

Also, did anyone notice this? The Musicians list updated with Jun Senoue being added after yesterday's Angel Island Zone arrangement.

I like this update.

How will Nintendo ever top Super Smash Bros. Brawl? This is one of the most ambitious titles they've ever done -- on par with, if not surpassing, Twilight Princess.
