I believe it's going to be streamed at this address once the conference starts:
http://www.irwebcasting.com/060914/01/ Correct me if I'm wrong. Got it from the other Wii thread. Jam it back in, in the dark. |

NY Times may have broke the news before it even hits Japan. We'll see what's unveiled at the keynote though. There's nowhere I can't reach. |

IGN has a roundup on all the .swf videos on the Japanese Wii website:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732689p1.html Great movies, mainly showing off the Wii interface which I love. Also, Gamespot has the confirmed US launch titles: Nintendo Excite Truck The Legend of Zelda: Twlight Princess Wii Sports (bundled with console) Activision Call of Duty 3 Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Rapala Tournament Fishing Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam World Series of Poker Atlus Trauma Center: Second Opinion EA Madden NFL 07 Need for Speed: Carbon Konami Elebits Ubisoft Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII Far Cry: Vengeance GT Pro Series Monster 4x4 World Circuit Open Season Rayman Raving Rabbids Red Steel Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent -- The rest are apparently "Within Launch Window" titles. So that makes 20 titles on-launch, with a bunch more before the end of the year. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
By the way... if you haven't already, check out the Wii Boxing clip on IGN:
http://media.wii.ign.com/media/826/826987/vids_1.html There's definately some "next gen juice" flowing in that portion of Wii Sports. The motion blur "flicker" on your transparent boxer man, and the woosh of the gloves looks really spectacular. If the rest of the Wii Sports titles get that kind of polish before launch, I'll be muchly pleased. I was speaking idiomatically. |

Makes sense, considering that the nunchuk is 20 as well.

Okay so... I'm all in favor of the whole gameplay over graphics strategy.
But I have to say... Far Cry Vengeance for the Wii looks just plain shoddy. The UI is messy, the textures look blurry, and the polys look bare minimum for a system more powerful than the Xbox. I mean let's just compare things here. Granted the screenshot may not be taken in the best flattering resolution, but still... if you release the first screenshots of a game that's due for release in a few months, they better look top notch. Wii Version ![]() Xbox Version ![]() Not that I was going to pick it up anyways, but I really hope there's a lot more work to be done on this title. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
As I said, just comparing what's out there.I think even if it is a quick low-poly test build, it might have been a bad move to release those as the first impression shots. Edit: Here's a screenshot from the recently leaked Ubisoft dealy that shows a better idea of what the actual game looks like, rather than the shoddy IGN shots: ![]() The image name has "Concept HUD" in it though, so it might be a photoshop overlay. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
By the way, thought some folks might be interested in this:

So, I managed to come across a Wii kiosk today at a local Gamestop. The person who was playing when I walked up had to turn in his driver's license to get the controller. But amusingly enough, he just let me take a turn after he was done.
Game in was Excite Truck, seems it's the default title in the kiosks. There was a time when I really loved this game... but, I just wasn't feeling it in actually playing the game. The framerate seemed to be going far slower than it should have been. Felt almost like a sub-30 rate at times... Control could've been a lot more precise, especially for wide steering. When on the road, the slight movements worked well, but if I wanted to take a really tight turn, it seemed to crap out past a certain angle, like you just couldn't pull a hard turn at all. The boosting was really unclear. You pressed and held Up on the D-pad to boost up, which looked to be identical to Motorstorm's turbo where you have a heat gauge. Except that when you overheat in Excite Truck, you just get some shoddy black smoke and slow down a lot. What confused me was that it wasn't too clear when you had to boost to get a bonus on jumps. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. When I DID get a boost and landed perfectly for an extra boost bonus, that's when my next issue popped up... You will learn to hate trees Apparently they're made out of magnetic titanium. Because any time you so much as brush one, you crash and have to mash on the 2 button to boost back into the course. Why button mashing on a Wii game? Really. In any case, when you first start playing, you're going to average hitting about 5-10 trees per 2-lap race. At least that's what the other guy and myself concluded while playing. Cacti, on the other hand, are apparently made of jell-o and just sploosh away when you hit them. The exception of course is when you pick up a "Power" icon on the track, which gives you a super nitro boost and lets you plow through trees with the ease of Mr. Cactus. Difficulty-wise, the game's pretty difficult to get into, and I might have enjoyed it more if I played longer (or at a lower difficulty setting). I either went really slow and got lackluster jumps, or went extremely fast and ended up going off the course due to my lack of steering prowess. Graphically, (last, since one goes into a Wii game expecting current-gen visuals) the game was still pretty lacking for me. I suppose I'm jaded by Motorstorm, but even on a nice big HDTV, the textures looked soft and underdeveloped. The trucks were very mono-color, though from the outset you choose from about 10 models and 10 colors. The designs aren't incredibly inspired, but they do the job of being big damn trucks. As a random final note, the controller is so tiny! I was expecting it, but I had no idea how minuscule it would feel in my hands. Not a complaint, just an amusing observation. The most amusing part was poking fun at how damn resilient the trees were, and how bad I was doing
There's potential big fun with four people looking for some entertainment, but I didn't see a massive potential for depth. The play mode seemed to consist entirely of getting stars in courses to "master" them in each of the "Excitement Levels" (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum). I apparently got half of the stars required to master the Fiji course I played on, despite getting a glorious 6th place out of 6. It didn't seem to care that I didn't place, but I could be wrong. Of course this could also just be a limited demo kiosk version. Most amazing jew boots |
But what if we're not planning on getting a Wii until next year and still want to play Twilight Princess?
![]() I was speaking idiomatically. |
Eh, there's been an even mix of good and bad reports on both systems. Moreso good reports on the Wii from what I've read and heard. Guess it depends on where you live.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Just wanted to mention that apparently EB/Gamestop are getting a big shipment in today (Sunday)... So I'm going to be attempting to pick one up finally! Wish me luck
