I don't have a PSP, so... bring on the emulation asap!
![]() Also, boo to BluRay not playing in 720p... Doesn't seem like I'll reap the full benefits of the medium until I get a bigger TV ![]() This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
It's a higher resolution, but it's interlaced as opposed to progressive scan.

Something interesting I noticed... Gamestop shipped out a holiday add-in in the newspaper this morning, likely for Black Friday madness. In the PS3 section, it mentioned that if there aren't PS3s available, they'll be selling $600 PS3 Gift Cards for when they come in.
They also have "clever thought bubbles" of people for each console/game's page... 360: "I didn't know what the perfect gift was, but now I know I got it." Scarface: "This is paradise, Scarface is in my hands!" 360: "The great thing about the 360 isn't beating the games, it's showing everyone online that I did." PS2: "I don't know if you can stay up for a week straight, but I'm gonna try!" PS3: "PS3 is gonna look great on my BIG screen TV ...hint, hint." Hardware bundles: "In case I haven't said it, thanks, thanks, thanks!" Used games: "Finally, an excuse to put my homework down!" Wii: "How do they wrap so much fun in such a little box?" I was speaking idiomatically. |
Awesome
I'll see if you're online sometime and hop into a game.Double Post: Doublepostspam. So I realized tonight that I hadn't tried out the backwards compatibility of the PSX titles yet... Well damn. I popped in Vagrant Story, game loaded up incredibly fast, didn't even have to press the PS button again once it switched into PSX mode... The game was extremely crisp (and pixely/jaggy, but that's PSX for you) and I'd have to say was an entirely better experience than playing a PS2 game on the system... The only common problem I run into with PS3's backwards compatability, is that using the HDMI cable and downscaling the resolution manually still sucks the contrast out of the color drastically. When I switch to S-video (since both are connected to the monitor simultaneously), the colors become infinitely richer and games take up the whole screen rather than having oodles of black surrounding them. So yes, Vagrant Story is GO. FFT also works great. Matsuno collection on PS3 confirmed. I'll try out some more PSX games later, but for now I'm sleepy from the consumption of many good foods. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Impressive!
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus Sony put out a huge searchable database detailing exactly which games have issues with backwards compatibility, if they're totally fine, or if they don't work at all. FELIPE NO |
That would rock, if it handled PS1/2 upscaling as well
I don't quite understand all of that either, but I'm going to trust techheads' excitement to mean "good thing" ![]() What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Do we really have to start this argument up again? It's pointless. Both systems are out now, and it's all about the games from this point forward.
Really glad GT:HD was canceled and put as a free download. Hope it gets available here, even though I don't particularly like GT. But at least shit-flingers have one less thing to hurl now. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Firmware 1.3 just came out for el PS3. Details are still in the air about what exactly it does. But people are complaining about something regarding 1080i. Doesn't concern me, since my monitor can't support that res.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Well, I actually had a quite glaring issue when I had first restarted after updating...
I had set my resolution setting to "auto", and for whatever reason it included 1080i in that bundle of resolutions. So when it started back up, it attempted to put me in 1080i... Which my monitor doesn't support, and thus I just got an error message on the monitor saying "please switch to a supported resolution." -- And I couldn't see anything at all. I tried shutting down, unplugging my HDMI cable, and starting up with S-video connected... no dice. It doesn't detect that the connection isn't being used, and so it seems you would have to change the setting before switching to a different input or else you won't get any image at all. Thankfully, my memory of the XMB was pretty faithful... What I ended up doing was using the clicks of the XMB interface to find my way around. Clicked to the far left, moved over one... down to the bottom, then counted up 3 to Display. Then hit X a few more times and switched over to S-video. From there, I switched back to HDMI in 480p and added 720p to my resolution list, taking off 1080i. Now I shouldn't have any issues with it attempting to set my resolution to an unreadable one So, problem solved on my end despite peoples' bitching. Most amazing jew boots |
Lemmings 2 all the way baybee
I'll have impressions once I've played it, assuming it gets added tomorrow.I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
![]() As for me being gullible or ignorant? Not really. I'm not having any major issues, and I'll own this console for quite some time to come, playing whatever great games come out for it. Just like I did with the PS2. What happened of the 3-console rivalry after several years? People just got on with what they had and were content with what was offered for their system(s). The same'll happen this gen, so I don't really need anyone telling me I'm foolish for buying something earlier As far as the price, it's been a year and the 360 hasn't dropped in price even though it's lower to start out with. I wouldn't see the PS3's price dropping soon either though, especially considering that they still need to get to the point where profits are made. Most amazing jew boots |
The main issue I have is BluRay playback. Since my monitor has a native res of 1680x1050, I can't quite hit the 1080p mark (30 pixels off, ugh) so I run everything in 720p. Unfortunately, the PS3's BR playback is either 1080p or 480p, with no scaling up or down to fit my 720... So as a result, the quality looks about equal to a DVD, which is really unfortunate. Games, though, pretty much all have 720p resolutions and so I don't have issues there.
I technically have an "HDTV", which is a 20" widescreen monitor with DVI-D input. Things are definately more shiny than they would be on an SDTV though. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
No idea what HDCP is, so I can't help you there.
Just got Lemmings and played it a ton So much fun... Brought back good memories of playing the original on my Genesis back in the day. Things start getting even crazier once they start adding in teleporters, dim lighting where you have to light torches to see exactly what's going on (lightning also flashes periodically to light the way for a second), and then also cloning machines to aid in getting your quota. The cool part is that you can see everyone else's progress on each level through means of the leader board. All it gives is bragging rights, but if you find some way to save either more Lemmings or complete the stage faster, you'll shoot up in the rankings. For one stage, most people had gotten 4-6 Lemmings saved, but I got 8 and with a faster time... so, for now, number 1 on that level I'm sure someone'll figure out a way to beat my score eventually.Downloading the free level of Sudoku and then the Genji2 demo for kicks... if I don't fight a giant enemy crab, I'll be massively disappointed ![]() FELIPE NO |
I've had it since day one actually
The downloadable Motorstorm demo is even better than the in-store one. Tried Go! Sudoku, and for what it is (free sudoku puzzles with a rather flashy layout), it works fine. I ended up doubling the recommended time on the first puzzle, since I've never actually done sudoku before... so yeah. Apparently there's an online Versus and Battle modes, but no one had a room set up yet. The first several hundred puzzles are totally free though, so I see no reason why not to get it and just mull about figuring em out in spare time. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
|
Heh, I bought it for the original price before the error occured. Oh well.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Same with most console launches. Wii honestly had a rather weak initial lineup as well (albeit with more quality titles than PS3's), and their release forecast is almost nil until Spring 2007. It tends to go that way, though there's still plenty of good things to play till then on both the new consoles and existing ones.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Got the controller working on my PC with that, thanks
Just got done playing some PSU with it.How ya doing, buddy? |
USB. My computer can't read bluetooth.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Nah, I don't really have any emulatory things on my computer though now that I have a working controller I may nab an SNES one and give some stuff a whirl.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
The PS3 controller looks to be compatable with any application/game that accepts controller input. I figured out what all the button labels are, for those interested:
B1 - Select B2 - L3 (Stick click) B3 - R3 (Stick click) B4 - Start B5 - Dpad Up B6 - Dpad Right B7 - Dpad Down B8 - Dpad Left B9 - L2 B10 - R2 B11 - L1 B12 - R1 B13 - Triangle B14 - O B15 - X B16 - Square Right Analog - Z-axis (for PSU camera control mapping) FELIPE NO |
Resistance on its hardest setting is pure insanity... That's where you can really see the AI come to life. And kick your ass.
(Yes I know we're talking about action games, but it related to difficulty and AI )How ya doing, buddy? |
People probably already know, but Gran Tourismo HD is up for free download on the PS Store
Get it! It's extremely shiny!Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I'd personally say go for Resistance. Genji doesn't feel too great to me, from the demo. But it's for you to make the call
![]() Congratulations though! Santa's the man. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Resistance and RR7 are the two boxed games I've been enjoying, not much else piques my interest at the moment until Motorstorm.
However, there's a few downloadable things that you should check out. Blast Factor, Lemmings, GTHD and the Motorstorm demo are all fantastic. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
