Scanners

After buying a new computer, I realized one thing I had forgotten to get: which would be a scanner. I do art, and scanners come in handy since I do a lot of traditional art.
I'm currently looking for something that would cost me no more than 120 dollars or so.
I know I'd probably be looking to get a flatbed scanner, but as for all the technical stuff...I have no idea what means what. DPI? WAHHH?!

Would anyone want to guide me through this =\? If I'm just doing it for art (mostly black and white inkings, but sometimes paintings and such), does that change any of the necessary things I'd be looking at?
Or at the least, are there any brands I could depend on?

Jam it back in, in the dark.
