My experience with canceling the AOL account for my parents years ago probably wasn't that bad, but it took much longer than necessary. The customer service representative asked all sorts of questions about why I wanted to cancel, and that lasted about fifteen minutes. After he finally began the process to remove our account, he didn't confirm until after trying to offer us free service and other promotions. The entire process lasted about 45 minutes or so.
