I don’t believe that you understand Jack’s motivation despite what he says this has nothing to do with protecting children. More importantly, if these people wanted to protect children they would start cooperative efforts with the ESRB. Instead what Mr. Thompson and most people do is scream “let make a law” which quite simply will never happen. The First and Fourteenth amendments prohibit it. At the buttom of this post are two legal cases which explain why.

Anti-video game legislation will never pass for the reasons these judges listed. I’ll let those two cases speak for themselves but there are two things I need to say. Here is one thing these taking heads will never tell you: the same psychologists that say games have a horrible effect on children also believe the same about TV and movie. The fourteenth amendment equal protection clause enters the picture, here. Targeting games for doing something that all media does, would be the same as targeting only blacks for crime done by all races, in other words unconstitutional. So far no judge has found the evidence of social scientist on this sufficiently convincing, but despite what politicians say it doesn’t matter. If they did believe the evidence it wouldn’t change the outcome if they believed the evidence they would have to reject the legislation on 14th amendment grounds.

Anti- game legislation will never pass for this reason alone, anti-media might stand a chance so why hasn’t anyone tried this approach? One, because Jack Thompson and the politicians that support him only care about issues that maximize their media coverage. Two, the supports of these legislations never mention this, no one holds these people accountable for drafting poorly idealized laws, they are allowed to get away with blaming judges for there own failure to consider issues that any first year law student could point out.

Jack Thompson promotes the waste of money and time in the pursuit of un-attainable goals. I don’t believe that games are as harmful as Mister Thomson but assuming I did it would only increase my rage because the wastefulness he promotes would be even more dangerous.

It gets even worse this just shows how futile his goal of anti-game legislation is, you take specific action in to question and Thompson is even more of a negative influence. Put quite simple those who believe that games are a social evil should oppose not support Thompson his over inflated ego coupled with his myopic obsession with videogames is counterproductive to any progress being made. Thompson creates panic, Thompson creates sound bites, Thompson drafts failed legislations that wastes the limited research of our legeslators, Thompson spreads lie and misinformation.

Sadly, people can’t seem to tell the difference between a controversy and a solution.

Since people have mention school shootings I have to mention this. As I mentioned in my first post Jack Thompson is not helping keep our children out of harms way as the title of his little vanity book declares. He is in fact putting our children at greater risk for school violence. Preaching in behalf of a law he helped draft he told the Louisiana legislator that according to the FBI and Secret Service reports on school shootings video games media was the one common denominator in school violence he reported those sentiments in www.shreveporttimes.com article: http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/...plate=printart and on other occasion he and other have gone as far as to specifically say videogame were the cause of school shootings. This quite simple false the FBI never said this they in fact, said their was no common demonolater and contraindicated any approach that tries to look for a single denominator. Now, let me ask you a question? Let say your child has a problem and the top experts in medicine say that a certain approach should be taken. You would trust those expert correct? Now let say some guy told you an approach those medical experts specifically said NOT to do was not only to treat this disease would you trust him? Of course not! Now imagine that want that this same person wants to make this approach in to lie? Would this not seem ludicrous? Now imagine that he has already has a bunch of law makers that support him. Would this not frighten you? Yet this is exactly what Jack Thompson is doing right now.

Considering this is an important issue I feel the need to make it as abundantly clear how warped these people logic is and how ultimately productive they are. So attached below is a 4 page deconstruction I wrote up for a now purged forum detailing how wrapped these media critics logic is. Whew! Did mean to say so much here but hopeful someone will be just little more enlightened because of it.

Saw this today it is good for a laugh, Thompson is suing to get an early version of Bully. Red herring, lies, straw man arguments, non-sequester arguments, grammar mistakes, and everything else you’ve come to expect from Jack abound.

Yes, John Bruce the courts are going to violate that whole no prior restraint thing and that whole due process thing and force Rock star to send you a private citizen an unfinished copy of the game just so you can find out what you think of it. Get a grip John Bruce. I could write out a long explanation for how legally ludicrous his request is but I think we can all figure it out, I wonder how judges deal with having guy like Jack continually insult their intelligence with this kind tripe.
