How about the gameboy Battletoads game (not the port)? That one was pretty damn awesome, with only two really hard levels in it: the last level with the jetpack, and the level with the disembodied brain chasing you down some labyrinth (wtf did these guys smoke back then). The brain one took me FOREVER.
