Actually bought Grand Theft Auto 4 on Direct2Drive recently. The reason I bought it originally was because it was only 7 euro and my friend kept saying how much fun it was to play online, but I ended up playing the whole single player and loved every minute of it.
Its weird, because I owned GTA 1 and 2 but aside from driving around shooting shit I never touched any missions. Even GTA 3 and Vice City which I borrowed from my friend a number of times after he told me to play it. Same story, just random driving and shooting, no story. Jam it back in, in the dark.
