I mean, it's got the TILT function. That HAS to be expensive, right? At least you get what you're paying for with a Wiimote.
I don't know how currency transfers, but it seems that Sony's Sixaxis controller is retailing for 5,000 yen in Japan, roughly translating into $40 here with a direct translation. I know it's probably not the same, but the controller Sony has also uses Li-Ion Batteries too, which can recharge....I'm not saying it's better, but it's definitely more convienent.

Besides, the casual/non-gamer won't need the nunchuck attachment anyway. The pricepoint for the controller is probably only painful to gamers. Then again, most games don't quite need the nunchuck attachment, and for those games, they're mainly single player. You might only have to buy 3 Wiimotes without the Nunchuck attachment. So that's actually about $30-40 for just the Wiimote isn't it?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Actually, only the First Person Shooter/Platformers need it, I don't think anything else requires it. This limits it to Zelda and Red Steel and anything else along those lines. Excite Truck doesn't require it, I don't know if Mario Requires it considering that there's a D-Pad on there. And my previous statement stands, the games that need it are, for the most part, single player games. If you're looking for 4 player deathmatch in Red Steel or something, You're on the wrong console. That's in XBox 360 territory.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Sorry, I don't quite understand this part. Can you rephrase that?

And yes, I see that Wii will most likely follow the party system footsteps that Nintendo has been following. I'm just hoping that the next generation party games don't necessarily require a nunchuck attachment. I wouldn't complain if they did, but it would certainly drive up the cost for me. But more or less, it's just wishful thinking. Also, Did the controller "shell" idea get dropped somewhere along the line? Or will games like Smash Bros. Brawl use the original Gamecube Controllers? It really doesn't bother me since I loved the Gamecube Controller, but just out of curiosity.

Agreed. It would be much better to have the nunchuck when you don't need it than to not have it when you do need it.

And yes, I do some research, but stuff that hasn't been mentioned in a while, I tend to forget. :ashamed: So this Classic Controller is the "Shell" that was speculated, I see.

Lol, no offense taken, I'm just stating that when you think of First Person Shooters on consoles, you think XBox. I didn't say anything about them being good on a regular controller. I still say that the only thing that was good at FPS games was the computer's keyboard and mouse. We'll see if Wii can change that and become another viable control scheme of FPS games.

Life is good as long as there is Zelda. Alternatively, you could replace that with Excite Truck.

Main reason I'll be getting one is shared among Zelda: TP and Smash Bros. Brawl whenever that comes out (March 07 supposedly)

Sorry going off topic for a bit, but I must answer to this one....

CPU: 3-4Ghz

Intel Pentium D 925 Presler 3.0GHz 2 x 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail - $150.00

RAM: 1024MB

Kingston ValueRAM 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail - $101.99

Graphics: NVIDIA 6800GT/Ultra or 7800GT/GTX SLI

BFG Tech BFGR76256GTOCE Geforce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail - $143.99

Toal: ~$400

That's a Far Cry from your $1,600, even if it was an exaggeration.

Anyways.....Back on topic...

I can really see some use in the covers for the controllers, especially if they're relatively fragile compared to the GC's (Hell, everything is Fragile compared to the GC, that thing can take a load of punishment). But the buttons would feel wierd because they no longer protrude from the remote, but instead, you have to depress into the controller + cover.

And I second on the question "Why the hell do we need dog tags on Wiimotes?"

EDIT:

You have got to be shitting me....The GC buttons are too far apart? If anything they're a bit too close together. The General Consensus I've heard is that the GC controller is probably one of the best controllers out there.

I'm not saying there aren't good FPS games on consoles, Elixir does have a point as those games on the PC are noticably cheaper than their console counterparts. The difference between a PC and a console is that a PC serves more than one purpose. You upgrading your computer is inevitable, even if you don't game. Eventually, you'll have to upgrade that. With Vista coming out, even the Video Card needs an upgrade.

In fact, the point is there are just some things that don't work well on consoles compared to PCs. FPS games are one of them. (Hopefully the Wii can change that fact) There's a flipside that some games work better on a console than a PC, like Racing games.

The argument of using a PS3 to play something in the fashion of a PC, while it may have some validity, is not completely sound. If anything, it's the reverse logic. If you have a PC, why would you buy a PS3 to play it like a PC, disregarding exclusivity of games?

Anyways...

I really do respect Nintendo and the Wii for taking it into new directions.

What sets the PC, the general consoles, and the Wii apart is that each is good at doing their own type of games. What makes the Wii even more unique out of those is that it attempts to explore into new, uncharted territory for games that previously had little to no success on any platform. PC gaming can be seen as the oldest type of video gaming that still exsists. The only way to keep up with the times is to upgrade your PC when the time comes. and Every so often, you'll have to start from scratch when new technology comes out. This has been known for years. It's about to be the same for consoles. In the old days, when hardware got old, you got the next generation. While that is still generally true, it's becoming less true with Sony and Microsoft. The line between PC gaming and general console gaming (360 and PS3) is starting to blur. This is where the Wii comes in and does something new, something fresh.

There exsists in life a concept sometimes known as the Law of Diminishing Returns which says that everytime you put effort into something, it gets better and better, unfortunately, the law states that at a certain point, the improvement plateaus and becomes stagnant. The Wii is here to stop that point from occuring. PC gaming has been renowned for its innovation ever since the concepts of "mods" for games was born. The innovation in PC gaming lies in the fans, who are able to change gameplay based on their own tastes. Similarly, innovation for the Wii lies in its radically different control scheme.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

After which I said that I was glad that the PS3 was going to have K&M support. Whats the matter with that too? Also in my first post on the Wiimote (post #609) at the very end I even gave the Wiimote the benefeit of the dought that it could surpass K&M, what the hell else do you want from me, especially before I even get to use the damn thing. I'm a factual kind of guy I don't like to speculate on matters.

Perhaps this wasn't the place to mention it, but people don't need to get all defensive as to which is better. Why can only one means of interaction be good? Why can't there be multiple effecient ways of playing per each persons own liking? I'm sorry I ever brought it up. I won't say anything about it again, alright? (after this post)
I'm sorry if you saw it that way, but I certainly didn't mean it that way. Whatever, let's just leave it.

Anyways, to get back on the Wii direction...

I asked this earlier, but never got a response, how does one input text for the Opera browser for Wii? Is it going to be an onscreen keyboard? Seems like the only option, but, IMO, seems a bit cumbersome.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Sorry for careening into another topic but....

Quote:
2. We know that the sensor bar goes all wonky when halogen lights are in the room. But did you know that natural sunlight messes it up too? That's right, if you have the sun beaming right onto the sensor bar, it doesn't work. For about an hour or so, the sun shone right into the store, the two MP3:C kiosks had to have curtains above them, and the Wii Sports Tennis and Shooting Game kiosks were unplayable since they were "shrouded" in sunlight. Later the sun went behind a building, and everything was in working order again. So when you get your Wii, don't play it in the sunlight. Or keep the sensor bar and TV away from the windows.
This is from the NSider forums, BTW, Link Here

You post that newegg crap like those prices mean a damn thing to us guys north of the boarder. Even $800 dollars is an ambitious price for a CPU/RAM/VIDEO upgrade. The stuff I posted was the closest I could find for price comparison. Of course I linked to a 7900 because I'm not so sure what you're suppose to do with a 7600 except maybe run Quake III. None of this means anything because we still need a new MOBO for all of this to work and the fact that speaking for myself would prefer to purchase actual decent PC components (ie. not the stuff above) which would easily drive the price well over $1,000. So $1,600 is a pretty realistic figure for a PC ugrade when you're speaking in Canadian dollars.

But by the way, why bother pre-ordering a Wii? It's not like there's going to be shortages right. Nintendo is shipping 8 trillion units for Christmas are they not? Or is there some sort of incentive for pre-ordering? It's just I would be pretty darn surprised when I showed up to EB on launch day and be turned away because they have no stock.
I'm glad I don't live in Canada then. By the way, a 7600GT and a Dual Core Processer can do much more than you think.

You second point, I agree with though. There's really no point in pre-ordering a Wii unless you simply MUST get your hands on one the first day. Nintendo is going to ship so many units that it really won't matter. whether you get one at launch or get one a week later.

My last question was never confirmed, by the way.....Will the Sensor Bar fuck up if you put it in direct sunlight?

I was speaking idiomatically.

Man, if you had the power to kill somebody with a Wiimote unobtrusively....that would be interesting. But yes, Infrared is harmless to humans. Radio and Infrared are completely harmless, up to visible light. After that, it becomes harmful with UV, Microwaves, X-Rays, and Gamma Rays.

But back to the Wii.

Any news on DS/Wii Connectivity in games? I like to speculate and the idea of DS saves unlocking special content for certain games on the Wii sounds promising to me.

Dude, you're a genious. Download Vitual Console games onto the Wii. Transfer them onto DS, and play Virtual Console games on your DS. That really would be awesome. Does the DS have internal memory to store the games? If so, how much memory does the DS have internally?

I'd preorder but I don't think they'll run out of Wiis come launch day. Now if they do, I'll be pissed and regretting the fact that I didn't....

As for launch games....Probably Excite Truck and Zelda, plus the expansive gamecube library I have, that is, the Terrific Trio Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Mario Power Tennis, and Super Smash Bros. Melee

Haha....damn, I'm screwed.

If there are this many people waiting on preorders, then there's no way in hell I'm going to be able to pick one up anytime soon after launch. I suppose I should have preordered. Unfortunately for me, Virginia Tech resides in a college town where this is literally nothing here. I'd have to jump to an adjacent city just to go to a Wal-Mart. Well, regardless, here's still hoping that I can pick one up at launch during Thanksgiving break.....Along with Red Steel and Zelda.

*Crosses Fingers*

Thanksgiving break is Nov. 20 - 25.....O.o.....

Would they get a second shipment by that time?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

If you were planning on heading down to your local GameStop location to do a little in-store pre-order of a Nintendo Wii, you can sit your ass back down. The pre-order, which began on Friday, October 13, 2006, ended the very same day.

GameStop and EB Games stores began accepting limited pre-orders for the Nintendo Wii console on Friday, October 13, on a first come, first served basis. Due to extremely high demand and limited availability, most stores reached their pre-order limit within minutes. To avoid an unnecessary trip we strongly recommend you call your local store to determine availability. A $50 reservation deposit is required, which can be funded with cash, credit or trade. As we cannot control production and shipping issues by the manufacturer, a reservation deposit does not guarantee receipt of a system available to purchase at launch. Reservations/Purchases are limited to 1 per household.

The store’s site recommends you sign up to receive email alerts and newsletters to keep up with launch details.

Damn. Does this mean it is now impossible to get one at launch date? Or will those of us who do not have pre-orders be able to pick up one at the same time?

If I had known it was this crazy, I would have gotten my friend to pre-order one for me. >.<

That's actually a good point. Some like me don't give a damn about component/composite, but those who do will definitely buy it, even if they can't tell the difference. If they hear that the picture quality gets better, they'll fork over the cash for it.

As for the HD/SDTVs, we still have retailers selling 4:3 Televisions, but I think they're all HD-Capable now. Even the little 13-inch ones. I don't see how, but whatever.

Hopefully, where I live, there won't be any kind of line, at least hopefully not in a suburb. We have Best Buy, Circuit City, 2 EBs, a Gamestop and a Walmart, so I doubt ALL of those will run out come launch day. Might have to check more than one place, but they can't possibly all run out....can they?

Red Steel may of possibly just took my vote for launch title to get.

Multiplayer Video here

Looks just like Goldeneye 007 in terms of gameplay. Looks like it plays JUST like Goldeneye 007 with the new wii-mote control scheme of course. Hopefully it'll be just as successful as Goldeneye 007.
