Genuine question, surely the incentive to play a game is that you enjoy playing it? Do you actually like playing Halo or are you just playing it to get to the top rank because that's a pretty weird way to approach a leisure activity in my opinion.
Comes back to the carrot on the stick thing again; even going back to Halo 2, 99% of people would never hit the top rank, but it was always something to aspire to. Let's say that I hit the max rank cap before they lift it (and if I hit the max rank cap and they haven't raised it, they've got some serious fucking problems), the game has a billion ways in-game to track my progress and improvement, and that will be for all intents and purposes shut off. Dangling dozens of commendations and ranks and whatnot in front of a player but offering them literally no way to proceed one iota towards any of them is kinda fucked. Absolutely none of this applies to me since I doubt I've ever come that close to the daily cap, I just find this interesting as an observer. I also don't really understand why they have a daily cap and a max rank cap, they should have just managed the daily cap a little more effeciently so people could still progress (even if not as much as they would like) without just hitting a total brick wall. I'm curious to see how this works out and how they handle it; with CoD coming out in November, if they fuck it up they WILL lose players to that, especially with CoD being the ultimate carrot on a stick game.

Also apparently the 17 games played Challenge today is borked; if you turn off your system or go to dashboard (basically leave Halo Reach at all) it resets the number of games you've played. So unless they've fixed it, you have to do 17 games in one go. What the fuck are they doing over there?

Are Daravon and/or Shake still on their streaks of no missed challenges, or did that eventually falter?
I still haven't missed one yet, and I'm fairly sure Shake hasn't either. At some point (probably sooner rather than later) I'll miss one, at which point I'll care considerably less. Also part of my caring right now is to get the extra cR to hit Lt. Colonel, which I should in the next day or two anyway. Shake has much more free time than me, as well as considerably less games to play, so I imagine he'll probably keep his streak going for quite some time.

They're all super easy except the Sword kills one, which doesn't take terribly long but is just really annoying.

Also only 5,375 cR from Lt. Colonel, fucking FINALLY. Will probably wake up early in the morning and hit it before work maybe. I'm seriously considering taking a break from Reach once I hit it, either by playing a lot less or possibly not at all. My performance has gone to complete shit 90% of the time days in a row now, and it's just frustrating me.

Hit Lt. Colonel; awesome how apparently my Achievements are glitched because on the 360 it says I have 48 out of 49 achievements at 995/1000, but on xbox.com it correctly shows 49/49 1000 (also one of the 360 screens shows 49/49).

Anyway, I'm done with Reach for a while. Now that I have the last achievement, I have no desire to play Matchmaking at all. Playlists mostly suck, BTB and Invasion desperately need more maps, spawns are broken on several maps, I could go on and on.

Alright, I need one of you folks with Pro who has a spare render minute to do this clip of some guy trying to splatter me and failing so it can live on in hilarious eternal glory. I do not understand what he was thinking.

Oh and Daravon, here's that amazing setup we pulled on that one idiot during the start of that 3 Plot match. Why the fuck did he stop and stare at me.

I think today's update removed the Drop Shield from objective games, or at least some of them. I'm pretty sure they've said that they'll be removed from all of them, as that was fairly obviously broken from day one.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

The problem that Reach seems to have for some reason (as opposed to other XBL games) is that every time I put it on Everybody, there's always a billion people talking on lobbies over one another because multiple people apparently have it on Team and Party. I tried rolling on Everyone for a while tonight, but aside from being told I was going to be raped a few times, it was just unbearable cross-talk.

Yeah, dudes like that on XBL blow, but I can never bring myself to do Team and Party or Friends Only, because proxy chat is always funny, like those dudes who were getting so pissed earlier when Shake and I were playing Team Slayer.

Nothing tops that one time Daravon and I were on H3 and this dude had some serious techno blasting through his mic and Daravon swore we were playing against the Techno Viking. It was like a party every time he got near enough for you to kill him, I couldn't stop laughing.

That was SO GOOD. I remember it was on the Pit, and I could literally hear him through the proxy voice chat before he would even blip on the radar. It was like I was killing the party every time I killed him

The Freelancing one is also kinda bullshit. Most of us can probably pull that off on a regular enough basis to not make it impossible or anything, but for most people that's probably unobtainable.

Multi-team is Assist Central though; bet I could probably have at least half of those assists if not more by the time I hit 150 kills if I did it all in there.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

BWU is up. tldr version:


-As you can see above, the vocal minority is bitching about the cap; sketch mentions in the update by hitting Major he is now in the top 97%.
-You are still earning cR even at the cap; when the cap is raised you will have all of the cR while at the cap. So capped players will likely skyrocket ranks and armory options once the cap is raised.
-The Cap is in place for security reasons (to identify/prevent abuse, etc). The second reason is that they have "cool ideas" on how to raise the cap via "communal effort."
-According to Sketch, he expects that the cap will be raised "in the next month or two."

-2nd October Matchmaking update tentatively expected 10/19. They are hoping to roll out dedicated Infection and Snipers Playlists, as well as "one or more" Forge map variants into Matchmaking. Nothing final yet, will be be posted when dates and details are available (likely next BWU).

-Trueskill is still collecting data in the background for player matching, which may explain why there sometimes still appears to be a disparity in skill level in matches, etc.

-Only ~5% of players have completed the Legendary Solo achievement, and ~10% have the Elite assassination Campaign achievement.


The cap bullshit is largely rendered moot by the fact that you continue to still earn cR at the cap, and I can understand the security reasons (although it still sucks). Still think it's somewhat bullshit that it's going to be a month or two before it gets raised, although if only a fraction of a percent of players are actually at the cap I don't know how much I can blame them. Also would be fucking awesome if Infection gets a playlist, or at least gets into other playlists outside of Rumble Pit.

So one of the Daily Challenges today is kill 400 enemies in any game mode in Reach for 4,000 cR (which is awesome). However:

-4 games of Score Attack today = 4,000 cR
-50 games of Firefight Matchmaking for Weekly Challenge = 3,000 cR

Do not understand Bungie.
