For me, 3 things necessitate a theater visit:
1. An expansive movie that begs to be seen in an immersive environment (see: "The Bridge On The River Kwai," "The Searchers," "Citizen Kane"). 2. A high-quality screenplay, for which I want to reward the screenwriter. 3. Just an outright fantastic movie, whether it has a wide or limited release. If we still had the studio system, I'd weigh that into my decision, too. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
