I live in California so thankfully I don't fall victim to smokers at the table or anywhere in vicinity of food in the same room. Thankfully.
In other places, not so much. I learned that it just depends on what's more acceptable for certain situations.
I agree with Iwata in some cases though. Like after partying and a group of our co-workers want to go out and karaoke, it was much more fun to be in places where drinking and smoking in the same premesis were allowed. Although I'm not a smoker myself, I found that as long as people were enjoying the event the smell and smoke eventually stopped bothering me too much. Once in a while I'll step out to get some fresh air, and usually that's enough for me.
Restaurants and places to have meals, however, I take a stand on not having any cigarettes around. Especially while eating. ESPECIALLY at the family dinner table. This is the only non-smoking rule I stick to while I'm with smokers (usually dad).
Jam it back in, in the dark.
