Whatever you do, don't get the Manga Entertainment versions of the two movies. They have non-anamorphic, blurry, washed-out, completely worthless transfers and don't have the 5.1 renewal audio. Bandai Visual USA will be releasing both films (1st this month, 2nd in July) with remastered video and the 5.1 and I would strongly suggest you get those versions instead.

Okay, that's kind of overstating it. Patlabor 1 and 2 are two of the first anime movies I've ever seen, and they were also 2 of the first DVD's I ever bought (around 2001)... and while the transfers aren't stunning, they're not all that bad.

If you want to see a really bad transfer, check out the Central Park Media release of Grave Of The Fireflies. It looks like it was made with a consumer set-top DVD recorder - areas with sharp contrast have the classic NTSC "rainbow effect".

Oh, by the way.... I have the three movies, and the OVA. I've been dying to watch the TV series, but the noob anime club at my school doesn't have it, and I never bother to save up the money for it.

Anybody got the whole original series for upload, with decent subs?
