I've always pronounced them as Ba+ha+Mutt and Rid-dia as long as I can remember, and I'm not about to change that now. Same with how I pronounce Chocobo (Cho+ko+bo with hard c, not Choke+a+bo)I also think Squall's last name should be pronounced as Léonhart, and not Leonhart. It sounds better than attached to his first name.
@Dark Nation: the voice acting is very good, one of the best I've ever heard from a video/PC game. Rivals the LucasArts games, in my opinion, and that's very high praise coming from me. I don't think you'll be disappointed. There's nowhere I can't reach.

Man, this game is tough. I'm currently at the Leviathan and I got my ass handed to me repeatedly in that fight with the 6 soldiers. Ouch! The more enemies in an area, the harder it is.
Since it's pretty much the first healing spell you get besides that crappy First Aid, I don't like how it takes forever just to cast Cure. Oftentimes the person dies before you even cast it. How ya doing, buddy? |
I think the worst dungeons I've seen in an RPG is from Star Ocean 3. I hated every dungeon in the game. I didn't like being stuck in underground after underground while escaping from the dungeon 'cause I'd rather be above ground, and when I did get above ground, I was stuck in a crappy desert. I HATE deserts in RPGs. They're always so boring to look at.
I think everyone agrees that FFXII definitely has top-notch production values. The story hasn't collapsed on me so far as well. I can live with a less than stellar story if the game itself is fun. P.S. I take it there's no Bahamut in this game? :( I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
You must be much further than I am, Foshi, because I haven't had to do any backtracking yet.
Sucks there's no Bahamut. I'd have loved to see what he'd look like. FFVIII still holds a special place in my heart, despite how cool FFXII looks. It's one of the main reasons why I'm no longer a furry today. It was the very first time that I fell in love (no, I don't mean love love) with a character that wasn't some sort of animal, and he's my favourite VG character ever too. The game means a lot to me. Edit: @soulsteelgray: Oh, I take it Bahamut is an airship then? I noticed that several airships are named after classic summons in the guide. Does it look as cool as the dragon himself? I didn't take a look at your spoilers. I was speaking idiomatically. |
I feel that I just had to respond to your post, Spatula. I never thought I'd find someone else who had the same feelings for FFVIII that I had. I loved the way the characters interacted with each other. I, for one, never understood why people were claiming Squall was a turd/ass/whathaveyou. I personally thought he was a fairly deep character, and the way he matures throughout the game looked darn believable to me. In my personal opinion, no other FF game (FFXII included) has made me feel deeply connected with the characters. Squall and the gang could have easily existed in our world as normal people. I could identify with them all. Laguna especially seemed like he'd make a great dad to have. Bah, I can't explain these things well : /
It's the characters personally that makes the game stand out, Denicalis, being more believable than characters in other games, and the fact the game revolved around them more than the main plot. I don't expect everyone to understand why we love FFVIII. Well, I'm probably going off topic since this is supposed to be about FFXII What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Lame? His speech during the Garden Battle was great. His words to the mayor of Fisherman's Horizon is inspiring. He may have some faults, but hey, nobody's perfect.
I personally loved his dialogue. He's my favourite VG character. FELIPE NO |
Y'know, I probably am underlevelled. I haven't done much with the License board, just getting new weapons here and there. I don't even have any Quickenings yet, which I hear is just great for the boss in the Leviathan. I've got some catching up to do later today :D
P.S. I wasn't intending to start a war with FFVIII :( Glad the discussion's stopped now. I didn't want to be the sole person responsible for derailing the thread, although unfortunately it was started by me. Sorry. Oh well, back to FFXII, people! P.P.S. Damn, no merchant on Leviathan until AFTER I beat the 6 soldiers? Gahh...luckily I saved to a different slot. P.P.P.S. No save point before boss? Arrrgh! Update: Did anyone else besides me thought of Backgammon when we were introduced to B'Gamnon(sp?) What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I had the misfortune of opening up every treasure chest (or pot, 'cause that's what they look like) I found too, thus ruining my chances of getting the secret item.
I got past the place I was stuck in last time (Twas at the Leviathan) I posted. Whoo! I just ran around Spoiler:
Now I am at the Westerland(sp?) and that place is tough, so I'm levelling up now in the desert. I'm keeping the entire party balanced. They're all at level 11. The Hunts are getting to be a lot tougher now. The first few were easy, but the Nidhogg and the Wraith are hard. I'm probably the only one who doesn't see any problem with the audio quality. I'm still very pleased with the voice acting. I personally think Balthier and Vayne give the best performances. Jam it back in, in the dark.

Based on the weapons I chose for the team, what weapon should Ashe use? I want a different weapon for each person.
Vaan with Pole. Front line fighter with some healing magicks for support. Balthier with Gun for those defense heavy monsters. I read that guns don't take DEF into acct. Fran with Bow for those high flying enemies that other weapons can't reach, or so I've read. She'll also do the bulk of the magicks. Basch with one-handed sword. Front line fighter of course. I'm not planning on using Penelo (don't ask why), so I haven't chosen any weapon for her. My main three fighters are going to be Vaan, Basche and Fran, with Bathier as backup in case something bad happens. Which is more preferable? Someone who does both black and white magick, or split them between two characters? P.S. I found 2 strong bows for Fran for FREE! Got them in treasure chests in the mines. I'm currently supposed to be going to the tomb, but the enemies on the way there are too much for me. I'm levelling up now because I'm pretty darn sure I'm underlevelled. There's nowhere I can't reach.

Everyone's at level 13, except for Penelo at 11 (not gonna use her anyway) and Basch, who just turned level 14. I want to keep the team balanced, so I'm constently switching the team around whenever one levels.
I don't really like how slow the guns fire. If it's better to use one character for black and one character for white magick, then I suppose Bathier can be the black magick user. Since he's a ranged character anyway, he'd be a good candidiate. I suppose Ashe can stick with a sword then. Don't you just hate it when you avoid the hidden traps, only to have one of your party members step on it? You'd think that with the advances in AI we've had for a while now, people won't be stupid enough to step on a tile that I purposefully avoided. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Is it normal for Vaan at level 14 to be pumping out 380+ damage with a Cypress Pole?
I stopped playing today. I played all afternoon :D It's time to give my PS2 a break, haha. Vaan has 2 Quickenings, Balthier has 1, Fran has 1 and Basch has 2. Whoo... There's a pole in the game called Gokuu, which is pretty cool considering the legend. Most amazing jew boots |
@Dizzy: Thanks for the tip! Dagger it is for Ashe. I'm having second thoughts now about Fran though. Since she's gonna be my primary healer, I'm now thinking of getting one of those staves/rods for her, as they're good for support/magick users. Which weapon class is better, and should I just stick with bow? I went on a skeleton killing spree in the mines before dinner, and went up to over 50 chains, earning me an award in the SKy Pirates Den. I then went ahead and did a 101 chain to see if I got anything else as a reward, but I did not :( I did sell all the extra loot to earn enough money for the Forgotten Grimore though :3 I really don't feel like levelling Penelo, and I don't know why. I'm sure I could probably survive with the other 5 though. Vaan and Fran are now at level 17, everyone else is at level 16, and Penelo's at level 11. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Each bone fragment sells for over 100, so it shouldn't take too long to get the book.

Yeah, you can get there through the Aerodrome. It costs a little over 200 for a ticket. Choose the option to walk around the ship, 'cause you can get a little sidequest there if you talk to the head steward. Chose the first option.
Nah, you don't need to unlock any gates to do the run. Take a look at the map in your guide. The bridge I'm talking about is the Shunia Twinspan. FELIPE NO

Well, no...some parts are blocked off as you said, but I can get to the Twinspan. If you cant get there, then I suppose the gate to Oltam Span is blocked off. In the room before that gate, there is a raised platform on the right with a lever where Treasure Chest 1 on the map is.
I'm off to bed now. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Somehow, I don't quite like to see Internet lingo appearing in games, but as long as it's restricted to one line or two, it should be all right.
About that poll...it should be added to this thread, not put in a separate one. GFF doesn't like those things, see. Mush, the reason why I got 6 Quickenings when Vaan's at level 14 (:D) is because I never bothered investing in the license board. I never bothered to get much decent equipment for the team when I should have, hence all the tough battles I've been getting. D'oh. Not good. That's why I'm just using the mines to get some LP. Now I got much better equipment and I'm ready to kick some butt now. As for my previous question, I'll just stick to Fran with bow. Having two ranged characters should help in the long run, I suppose. Jam it back in, in the dark.

I read in the guide that with the Telekenesis technique, grounded characters can hit the flying enemies. Right now, Basch is the only one in my team that has it. Still, having a black magick would be a good idea to have, since Telekenesis costs like 80 LP or so. Ouch. Vaan can be a red mage then. That oughta do it.
How ya doing, buddy? |
This is the first I've heard of Horology. What does that do?
Telekenesis is in a little niche on the right side of the board. I happened to come across it when getting Basch his quickenings. With Balthier and gun, Fran with bow (and Horology whatever that is), Basch with Telekenesis and Vaan with black magick up the wazoo, I should have everything covered for the flying enemies. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I presume the longer the fight takes, the more damage dealt? With a tech like that, it really shouldn't matter which weapon you're using. Prove me wrong.
How often does Charge work on average? I'd be screwed if all my MP goes down to 0 if it goes wrong. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Ah I understand Charge now. Do it when you have low MP anyway. After all, you've got nothing to lose, so you might as well go for it. I forgot that techs don't cost anything to use. I got Ashe Charge while in the mines and I went 'whooo!' Of course, I forgot that I never actually bought Charge, so I couldn't use it. D'oh! So I had her running around in circles (literally) to build MP back up. Balthier was the smart one. He just stood there watching me. Basch, on the other hand, kept trying to run after me :D I was speaking idiomatically. |
Haha despite his crappy lines there, I liked doing those mini-games, if only to hear him say Bucket-head. I prefer him to Tidus at any rate.
I'm technically supposed to hate Fran though. I don't like seeing animal appendages on humans, which is basically what she is, but for some reason I can't seem to hate her. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I made it to the tomb and am now at the South Passage. I got a headache after playing for hours, so I stopped :D The first Demon Wall is hella hard :/
The entire team is at level 20 now except for Ashe (19) and Penelo (11). I got some cool gear like the Blood Sword. Sap! I got lost a lot in the stupid Sandsea area :/ Does anyone else love the Victory scene after defeating bosses? Well, the poses the characters use specifically. Awesome stuff. Inhert, I got the Balthier cover. Back then, I didn't know that he'd end up being my current favourite character. Cool. FELIPE NO |
Even with a big headache, I still wanted to watch Digimon Savers (I Dled the latest ep). By the end of the episode, my headache was practically gone. Who would've thunk it? My max hits for Quickenings is 7, which I suppose is pretty blah. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

I have no clue. When I was still in the mines, I couldn't beat the crap out of the stupid Nidhogg. It kills my team in one blow. Boooo!! Now that I'm much stronger than than previously, however, I may be able to defeat it now, but I don't want to leave the tomb yet. I'll take a crack at it after getting past it.
I'll take your advice and look into getting all those licenses you mentioned. Whooo... How ya doing, buddy? |
I hope hunts don't disappear after accepting the offer. I accepted the Nidhogg challenge and have yet to kill the bastard. Luckily there's a side tunnel in the mines that lets me bypass it completely whenever I need to go in there.
I checked some of the other hunts in the guide and damn, these monsters have outrageous HP, so I'm also thinking of maybe waiting until much later before tackling them all and saving me from getting my ass fried. Oh, and props to the person who mentioned that having at least two ranged characters is a good idea. When I got to the tomb and fought Spoiler:
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
