Can't answer as far as respect, but I'm certainly in the second category.
I may dabble in a number of games but very few catch my interest. If I do get caught up in a game, I'm likely to become an expert on it. This makes games that have some depth of gameplay appealing to me. Jam it back in, in the dark.
