I beat DoC in two sessions (equaling about 9 hours). It kept me interested but it's hardly what I would call an awe-inspiring experience. The story never really jelled (much like AC, actually...).
The CG and music were the best part (easily). Playing through the game made me appreciate Hamauzu's work even more. It's a shame that most of his best pieces were barely played in the game. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Oddly, I didn't feel much nostalgia in DoC. I suppose they got the accuracies right (for the most part) but it didn't FEEL like the FFVII world to me... aside from the creepy (and largely ruined) first floor of the Shinra Building.
There were a lot of missed opportunities. A lot of the areas seemed interchangable (and had bland textures). There's nowhere I can't reach. |
