Sticky Buttons - Logitech Cordless Action Controller

Ugh. So I got two of those Logitech Cordless Action Controllers. The ‘X’ button on both of them is completely shot. I mean, they still work (barely), but man do they stick when you press it down. It is annoying as all hell, and I swear it is starting to make some games almost unplayable.

I tried taking out the screws on the back of one of them to take a look inside, but couldn’t manage to open it up all of the way. I didn’t want to force the two halves apart and end up breaking it .

Has anyone else had this problem with any of the buttons on these controllers before? How did you go about fixing it? I hope to god I don’t have to replace any of the rubber padding around the buttons or anything…

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Hmm…just found a pretty elaborate tutorial (with pics!) on how to fix to this problem.

Fixing Logitech PS2 Controller Sticky Buttons

It essentially shows how to open up the controller and how to rotate the silicon padding. Basically, the padding that supported the x button moves to a different button that is typically used less, such as the triangle button. Yeah, it’s not a complete solution to the problem, but it works. They also note that the triangle button still works, but is not as responsive. Better than nothing, I guess.

I'm gonna try this out. I'll write back, hopefully with some positive results...

EDIT:
Wow. Remember how I couldn't separate the two halves of the controller? There's an additional screw in the battery compartment. I am officially an idiot.

EDIT 2:
and...SUCCESS! My X button is working flawlessly. While the triangle button doesn't respond quite as well as it used to, it still does not stick at all, and faces minimum use anyways. Better than what I was previously going through, that's for sure.

Good luck to anyone else who tries this.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
